edit: also consider how moss fared in oakland, minnesota (second time) and tennessee. you can attribute it to any number of reasons but i think its worth a comparison. It doesn't hurt that Moss had Tom Brady for 3 years either, including the rest of the help provided by that undefeated regular season offense in 07

edit 2: Moss had a bad reputation for quitting on plays when he was unhappy for his entire career. TO drama is similar but i always remember the guy coming to play on Sunday. Worth considering

TO had his problems in the locker room, but he always put forth the effort. If I was voting based on who was the better player I'd take Moss. Moss's physical freakishness is unquestionably hall of fame caliber, but if you have to play four quarters of clutch football, do you really want a guy who wont even run the route if he's mad at his quarterback? (dramatization but point stands)

Moss played when he wanted to. Simple as that. And when he wanted to play he was arguably the best ever at the position. If he would've had Jerry Rice's work ethic Moss would have every single receiving record in this history of the league.

As an Eagles fan watching him in 2004 he made a good offense great, but then made a great locker room bad a year later. But '04 was a great year, and Owens was the biggest part of it. You also have to include coming back from a fractured fibula to play in the SB weekd before he was supposed to be back and play well, something Moss would never do. While he had his problems off the field, it's hard to argue that almost everywhere he went he made his offense better, something Moss can not say.

But Moss' athleticism is unmatched. It's hard to forget 1998 when he came into the league, and his record breaking year(s) with the Pats. But it's also hard forget his stints with the Raiders, Vikings part II, and the Titans. I don't remember him as a locker room cancer, but as being known as someone who gives less than 100% on the field, and even admitting to it. That is pretty damning.

I think both of these guys are most effective in small doses. But if I was forced to give one a 12 year contract his rookie year knowing what I do now, I think I would take TO. I have a harder time accepting not giving a 100% vs dividing a locker room.

This is stupid because as great as Brady was beforr Moss he hit new heights with him..as did New Englands team. The privilage works both ways. We had seen Moss be unbelieveable before Brady..we hadn't seen Brady go off before Moss.

I've always been amazed at how Moss has always been given a pass for basically playing when he wants and being a quitter. For any other athlete they'd be lambasted for not putting forth the effort, yet Moss is still beloved. It’s really strange especially among fans who tend to take pride in players putting forth effort all of the time. People blame poor teams in Minnesota (twice), Oakland and Tennessee for him not putting forth effort and they just ignore how bad it got in New England. The fact remains he was prematurely given up on with every team he played for...talent or not. That's says a lot if you ask me.

In 2005 Moss caught 60 passes for over 1000 yards and 8 TD's.

In 2006 which was his worst season in Oakland he was stuck with assholes like Andrew Walter and Aaron Brooks.

Did he handle it well? No. But then he went out for the next 3 seasons and shit all over the NFL in New England.

Moss only really had two true "down seasons" in the NFL. 2006 and 2010.

He was pretty damn good to outright spectacular for the others.

Yes, Moss signed five contracts in his career. He did well in Minnesota and New England. As has just been said, he did good in Oakland initially, but soured in his second year. To count the other two contracts Moss signed with Minnesota and Tennessee in 2010 against him, when he was at the end of his career, is ridiculous.

Are you also counting Owens' failed stint with the Ravens in 2004? Do you say "Emmitt Smith signed 3 contracts in his career, and he underperformed for two of them"?

Not even getting into the off the field stuff, Moss was better than Owens because he had much better hands.

He was expected to be the star offensive player for every team he inked his name down for, even Minny 2 and Tennessee. The Raiders, shitty Vikings and Titans didn't receive what they thought they signed up for, and I think that is pretty important information when choosing who you would rather have play his career for your team.

With his age it's pretty evident he'd be on the decline. I'm not on his case for putting up weaker numbers with the 2010 Titans than he did with the 98 Vikings. That's not really what i'm saying. I just question his reliability over Owens, not his athleticism.

I feel like Moss is a bigger gamble in the long run. (Not that either would hamper a team)
