Microsoft has been losing ground to Google for a long time. This is perceived as a way for them to push back and they did - by paying at least double Skype's net worth.

- Google Documents might not be as feature-rich, but it's free and makes collaborative work much easier.
- Chrome is gaining further adoption, bolstered by the Web App Store.
- Google just announced a cloud music service that's currently in beta.
- Google is working on ChromeOS, which would also directly compete with MS.

i wasnt being a smart ass. i was asking because i just dont see them as direct competition. I think of MS as a software company and Google is a web app company. which i guess is a parallel.

im not gonna dog any of those google apps u mentioned because i really dont know much about them...but i am gonna assume those are the top things to compare.

If Facebook ended up winning this little auction, it would have taken that company to another level. Would have made for an interesting turn for the company.

For Google, it wouldn't have really added another dimension, as GV is already in place. Not really sure how MS can make this a game changer. Facebook though, definitely would have been a game changer.

It's an old dog vs. new dog argument. Microsoft still sees the industry as a physical, software-driven business (which it currently is).

However, Google is pushing everything into the cloud. Things become more affordable and accessible this way and if Microsoft isn't worried, they should be.

IE is one of, if not the worst browser on the market. Chrome is one of the best.

Cloud-based music? Amazon kicked things off and Google is going to make it better. You better believe this was a space Microsoft was interested in with Zune before Apple and iTunes molested them into submission. Apple will win that fight over Google once they get involved, though.

In the next 5-10 years, software and web apps will be the exact same thing. What happens to Microsoft then when Google has been building towards it this entire time?

Hell, MS hasn't even put a game out for it since launch. That was FIVE FUCKING MONTHS AGO. But hey, at least they are getting plenty of third party support with shovelware and Michael Jackson games Fuck yeah!

I don't own either motion related things but a couple of friends do and they really enjoy it for those reasons. Don't see why it's a reason to act like it's not any good. It's just different.

So in reality your just bashing a MS product. Its really a genius product because its marketed so kids want it and offers enough for adults to enjoy it. obviously the hardcore gamer isnt really a factor. But what needs to be remembered is that the hardcore gamer is a fan for life. This device is marketed for the casual gamer or the lamen who would otherwise never play games.

On a serious note, there are a couple things they can do with their Live services, and with other software. In addition, this means they can control who has access to Skype as well. Obviously, if they control Skype, it means Google or Facebook does not, but they can also say that users of Apple can't access Skype, or have to pay a fee- just using that as an example.

This has nothing to do with hating or loving any company. It's a fucking worthless piece of shit. I think the Move is fucking stupid too, but at least with the Move and a Wii you can still play REAL games, not just Get Fit 12 and Dance-A-Thon 3.

And how many of these "friends" of yours are actual gamers without kids? If you say even one I call bullshit. I have about a handful of friends that have it and haven't touched it in months. Your boy Chodite is one. Go ahead and check his recently played games. He hasn't played a Kinect game in fucking forever, and he does have a kid.

So let me rephrase what I originally said. If you have young kids, love playing bullshit exercise games or dance games that get old after one hour then yeah, the Kinect isn't completely worthless.
