I'd have no problem with forcing kids to go to college, as long as they got something useful out of it. It's a joke that kids are "forced" to go to college and all they get is a free education which is useless since the kids generally aren't taking the academic side of things seriously / don't stay long enough to complete get a degree. Of course these kids can go play in Europe or go play in NBADL, but those are a lot riskier than going to standard college route.
If they're going to force the kids to go to college set up some special academic programs for them. Set up programs that last 1-3 years, make them take classes that will help them in the future. Make them take personal finance classes or something. It's ridiculous the % of players that go broke after their NBA careers. The way it is right now is pretty much a farce, we have to pretend players like Rose are college students knowing full well they aren't, and have no business being in college for academic reasons. Let's just be honest about the shit instead of hiding behind the fantasy that these are student-athletes who are so lucky to be getting a free education.
I also think the one and done rule is selfish. It benefits the NBA and benefits fans, but it doesn't benefit the players. If someone is talented enough to make the jump straight from high school, why should they not be allowed to just because we want college basketball to be more interesting.
