LOL. And neither does "survived by the skin of their teeth," either, right? You were talking about an average winning margin of 35-11 when you said that? Riiiight.

It's laughable to assert that 2012 Notre Dame is at all comparable to 2011 LSU.

Did they not against Bama? I get that you gotta keep the SEC's dick in your mouth at all times, but if you gave half a damn about what I said, you could see the comparison drawn instead of constantly living up to your rep. That'll never happen though, this isn't that type of place...

Playing Bama close last season was acceptable. What isn't acceptable is losing to Stanford(Yes I'm counting it) and multiple OTs with Pitt

I just don't know why you are trying to compare the two situations, they are totally different. You are comparing the 17th best scoring offense last season to the nation's 79th ranked scoring offense this season.

How exactly was LSU "winning ugly" last year? By scoring a lot of points and not giving up very many? And how exactly is that similar to this year's Notre Dame team?

Sorry, just not seeing the parallels. Pretty off-base comparison.

Re-reading your post now...
LSU last year had two awful QBs, played ugly games, survived by the skin of their teeth, and they weren't docked for not being a flashy team/offense that year, but ND is this year

Maybe they weren't "docked" for not having a "flashy offense" because despite having two awful QBs (awful QBs who ended the year with a 20-5 TD/INT ratio, but no big deal), they scored a lot of points.

I mean, they topped 40 points nine fucking times. What was there for people to detract? They played one ugly game, and scored a ton of points in the others. Not at all like Notre Dame's trajectory.

26 ppg < 35 ppg
79th overall < 17th overall

Where is the comparison coming from?

I love how easily Urban Meyer is making it look to win the Big Ten title. Too bad it doesn't count.

My point is that LSU was hardly viewed as an offensive power. They had issues at QB, they weren't a very flashy offense, they didn't have a skill offensive player all that near the Heisman race. When you talk about how good LSU was going into the NC last year, it was them playing a tough schedule and winning the best conference in the nation, as well as having probably the best defense in the country. When talking about ND this year, I think the same things are true. Yes, LSU was a better team last year. I don't think you expect me to argue they are. But they seem to be getting docked points for not having a clear cut QB, not having an explosive offense, etc. Yet, they have the toughest schedule of the unbeatens and they have arguably the best defense in the country. Yeah, they almost lost to Pittsburgh. My Canes in 01 almost lost to a very average BC team, and they're widely considered the best college team of the last 20 years, if not ever. Should Bama still be ranked #1 because they almost beat A&M?

I just think ND should get more credit for being undefeated against a tough schedule, instead of being #3 according to almost EVERYONE, behind a team like Oregon who is all based on fan perception. Yeah, they could be the best team in the country, but they've had little chance to show it against that cupcake schedule of theirs. If ND was undefeated against that schedule, they'd be ranked 10th, and everyone would say how it was based on name and bias.

Last year, LSU was ranked 100th in the nation in passing and 15th in rushing. This year, ND is ranked 90th in passing and 33rd in rushing. You're right, they couldn't be more different. And you realize that their defense and special teams scored points at a pretty decent clip also, right?

Oh I see those extra 10 points per game came from the special teams. Do touchdowns scored by running backs not count as offensive scores? LSU had 32 of those, this year's ND team has 19. LSU also had twice as many passing touchdowns (20). 52 touchdowns > 29. Obviously Notre Dame still has a few more games, so maybe they'll crack 40 touchdowns on the year.

Sorry, sill not seeing the comparison with respect to a voter's perception of the two being similar. One scored a lot of points each week and had several blow outs, and the other has not done that as often.

lol come on knubb, even if you think Taylor was in the endzone (he wasn't), the game would have been tied.

But yeah needing a blocked punt to beat UL Lafayette makes you a much better team than playing Pittsburgh close

I love how easily Urban Meyer is making it look to win the Big Ten title. Too bad it doesn't count.

The Big10 is in sorry shape. They used to have top QBs and big name coaches. Now they have neither. My NFL scout friend says that outside of maybe one or two guys, the MAC conference has had better NFL-prospect QBs than the Big10 for the last decade. The fact that Northwestern can win 8 or 9 games every year shows how bad the Big10 really is.

The Big 10 will be back in 3 or less years. Michigan is bringing in some good classes under Hoke, Urban will keep winning, and Penn State will be a top team again after their whole scandal is over. Nebraska will always be at least decent, Wisconsin is having a down year but I'd have to assume they'll soon be back to their old ways. If teams like Minnesota, Indiana, Purdue, Northwestern, etc. keep improving and pulling in better and better classes then the B1G will be even better than before this year. I'm not sure what happened to MSU, but it seems like every year the ND game makes or breaks their entire season. It's weird.

The B1G is not in any trouble though, IMO

Pretty cool the school I'm stationed right next to is #1 in the nation. Sucks I'm deployed missing all the wildness that's been going down. Hope they are somewhat good next season.

Michigan will probably be good in a few years, but in a way, that should be expected because they are clearly one of the top 2 programs in the conference. Its pretty amazing how terrible Rich Rodriguez messed things up. I'm sure Urban will keep winning. Outside of 1994, Penn State has never been a top team in the Big10. They've usually been a step below the Wisconsins and Iowas, and they've never been able to beat OSU/Michigan.

Nebraska will always be at least decent

I guess, but, much like Penn State when they joined the Big10, Nebraska was supposed to improve the conference. Instead, they've blended right in with everyone else...moronic head coach, terrible QB, struggle to beat Northwestern.

Purdue used to be a big player under Tiller, now they are back to being one of the worst programs in the nation. Indiana got incredibly lucky this year, but they've always been one of the worst programs in the nation. Minnesota is currently one of the worst programs in the nation. What is this "improvement" you speak of?

What happened to MSU is that they hit the jackpot and finally had a decent QB (Cousins), but now they are back to having a guy who can't throw the ball 15 yards and who struggle to put up points on the scoreboard. Its the same for many Big10 programs.

Well, Purdue was a B1G favorite at one point. That's some improvement from their past. Wilson had IU with a shot at the Rose Bowl this year and is bringing in quite a few 4 star recruits. They'll be better. Minnesota has actually won a few games this year, so they're improving.

See, you're doing it again. You're intentionally ignoring that they did score well on defense and special teams, which shouldn't be attributed to their offense, and instead arguing that this doesn't make up the 10 point difference. Which wasn't what I was arguing at all. It certainly closes the gap, though.
