New info on Patch#2 and Madden Community Interaction.

It sucks that we've been quiet, and I know there are folks here that are restless and also getting more and more negative, but there's not much I can do really. The 2nd title update has taken a long time to finish, and there were a bunch more hiccups in the road that we didn't expect. As Valdarez said, we are working on re-tooling how we will be communicating, and unfortunately it will not be daily direct interaction here on OS. As much as I loved many aspects of the interaction, it also got way too personal so there needs to be a better way to pull this stuff off that doesn't drive every employee that steps into the community into a depression. For every thread where I might have gotten great feedback on what to improve, there was some other guy making youtube videos about how he thinks I am a liar and posting them in the same thread. That type of s--t can ruin your night or even your weekend. So why put up with that if we don't have to?

Some ideas we've had so far include invite-only forums, polls, regular live chats, regular podcasts/radio show type of things, and many other ways to try and take all the lessons that we learned from the 10 cycle and fine-tune it to remove all the bad stuff for 11.

You will hear from us as soon as the information is locked in. Until then, I can't help much more than that.

I've pretty much given up on Madden already. I played it a good bit but I don't care for it any more. It's boring, repetitive, and way too frustrating for me to play with COD out now.

I agree, overall. A lot was promised in this installment of Madden and they overlooked some very important things.

However: it is counterproductive to be rude to the producers. This is exactly the kind of response that I would anticipate.

When individuals are rude to institutions the entity typically rejects them and regroups. You have to be smarter than that.

Now, we have no direct input. Dumb move by adolescent minded gamers.

i disagree doc, respectfully of course. Ian came out and said the game was gonna be the GOAT and instead it is a goat. when asked about game play issues he shrugs them off so people make videos not accusing him of being a liar, but proving it. EA doesnt listen to the general population they listen to a select few, i give you the move to slow game play online as a prime example. invite only forums and such will only further alienate the consumer from EA and just vontinue to prove that as long as they have the exclusive liscense it doesn't matter what we as a community say.

I do agree with Ian to a degree. Some of the s--t that was said was ridiculous. There is a difference between constructive criticism and just being an ass. Unfortunately, many people were being assholes for no reason at all, except to just do it. Now there wont be in "interaction" because some people can't control their emotions.

With that said, Madden has a long way to go with this game, but at least they are going in the right direction. You can't clean up years of BS in one year.

I agree with most that this Ian guy is way too sensitive to be out in the community promoting Madden. Going in to this, he should have understood the landscape of the online forum communities. There are ALWAYS going to be idiots on every forum due to the anonymity of individuals that post on message boards. EA also needs to improve their communication plans, which it looks like they're doing. You can't announce the details of a patch, then go dark on it for weeks or even months. Of course people are going to become restless about what's going on.

I can also see why there are a lot of people unsatisfied with Madden and the development team. There were some pretty glaring flaws in the game upon release, which is unacceptable, especially after Ian said time after time that this would be the greatest Madden game of all time. He made his bed, now it's time to lay in it.

Overall, I am enjoying this years madden mostly due to Killgod and the unbelievable franchise model that he put together for this years game. I will give EA credit, they are making the right steps towards implementing a solid online franchise model, and what they offered this year blows away the "online league" feature from last year. Still, I strongly believe that Madden will never be great until there is some competition in the industry, which doesn't seem likely. Until then, we are just going to have to deal with Madden being a decent to good game. From a business perspective, it doesn't make sense for EA to go all out to make a great game, when they can make a decent game and make nearly as much money.

If you can't look at this years game and see marked improvement from last years then maybe u should just put the sticks down because your gunna remain disappointed. This years version of the game was a big step in the right direction, people complaining that its too hard to run, if u havent noticed its hard to run in the NFL, ppl complaining that its hard to go deep, its fucking hard to go deep in the NFL.

+1, Madden 10 is BY FAR the best next-gen version of the game. They're headed in the right direction, but it's a lot to accomplish in just one year.

Ian Cummings is a giant toolbox, he's trying to blame everything on the people who are showing him the flaws in his game. He's basically getting all the OS posters to hate on guys showing legitimate flaws in the game, so they won't show that stuff anymore.

Those videos show things that should not be in the game yet they are. Make a good game and you won't get criticized, its simple.

edit- I just saw in the original post that they're thinking about invite-only forums. What a fucking joke, that means they'll invite a bunch of guys to suck their dicks and say how great the game is while only offering minor complaints. Basically like the community day guys who went and said how this was going to be an amazing game, fuck them. Get some real people who will bring up real problems and won't suck up just to get a chance to see the game early.
