How concerned should one be about going over the your allotted bandwidth? Comcast only allows 250 GB a month. How much bandwidth will one game eat up? 2-3 every Sunday?

SD video uses about 800M an hour and HD video uses about 1.5GB per hour. Let's factor on 6 hours per Sunday since no matter how many games you watch, you are only watching Sunday Ticket between noon and 6PM depending on your time zone. That's 9GB per Sunday or 36GB per month for Sunday Ticket.

Caps are not as restrictive as people think. 250GB is an ass ton of bandwidth.

Do you have an idea of how many GB's you download on a monthly basis? Unless you are streaming hours of HD movies per day and/or downloading tons of warez/porn there is no way you even come close to 250GB per month.

Ive done it. Downloading a bunch of 8+ GB HD movies, tons of music, streaming porn, Nextflix, gaming, standard net use, Torrenting Bucs games. etc... etc....

Averaging over 8GB per day puts both of you on the extreme end of Internet usage. Not sure what to say if you are using Comcast, who will suspend your service for going over. AT&T just charges you $10 per 50GB over 250GB after 3 months of going over but you get to keep your connection. If you want to get this service, you might have to cut your porn and illegal software habit down to 7GB a day to accommodate it :yep:

It was a one time deal but I was just pointing out that downloading Blu Rays and HD Football games make it not so difficult to do. Comcast didnt do anything though assuming because it was a 1 time thing.

To make sure that I am ready for the new DirecTV Sunday Ticket for the PS3 service, I have been testing my PS3's connectivity to the Internet. My PS3 was upstairs in my home office connected via wireless to my 2-Wire 3800 (G) gateway and has worked great for FPS and sports gaming. The TV is only 32" though and I wanted to move the PS3 downstairs to my living room where I have my Samsung 55" C8000 LED TV located but still maintain a high level of connectivity to my gateway so that I can make sure I am getting the best possible stream of the NFL games. I already had a pair of Netgear 85M Ethernet over Powerline adapters that I used for my old Xbox and dusted them off. Just to make sure that my bases were covered, I also went to Best Buy and purchased a set of RocketFish 200M Ethernet over Powerline adapters before I started my tests.

I haven't found a speed test that works on the PS3 browser accurately so I use the "test network connection" test under "network settings". I know my throughput of my Internet connection is typically in the ~23M range based on speed tests ran on my main PC that is directly connected to my 2-Wire 3800 (G) gateway. It seems that the PS3 network connection test delivers much lower results than actual throughput but for purposes of this test is provides a constant that I can test variables against in order to have good data.

Wireless (upstairs) - 10.8M down/2.0M up
Wireless (downstairs) - 10.9M down/2.0M up
Wired (direct to gateway) - 13.1M down/2.1M up
Wired 85M Ethernet Bridge (upstairs) - 9.4M down/2.0M up
Wired 85M Ethernet Bridge (downstairs) - 7.8M down/2.0M up
Wired 200M Ethernet Bridge (downstairs) - 11.2M down/1.9M up

Looking at this data, it seems that the difference between the upstairs and downstairs is negligible with regards to connectivity via wireless. My best results obviously came when I was directly wired to the gateway but that is not an option for me and was used as a benchmark against the other options. The 85M wired adapters performed 20% better when the PS3 was in the same room as the gateway vs. downstairs but still 13% lower than wireless under the same conditions. The 200M wired adapter does provide a 44% boost over the 85M adapter but is only marginally (300k) better than wireless.

I was not able to factor for latency via the PS3 but expect it to be in alignment with most of my speed test readouts on my PC in the ~30ms range. The fact that all of my above connection options exceeds what is required for a solid H.264 stream makes me feel good about tomorrow on my end. I'm going to start with wireless and see how it works, it it gives me any issues, I will switch to the 85M adapters and if all else fails I will go to the 200M adapters.

Hope that we are all happy with the performance of DirecTV's servers tomorrow!

Has anybody tried to use the app tonight on the PS3? I'm seeing 10-15 second random clips of Limitless mixed in with the Deon Sanders Sunday Ticket commercials. Looks like they might be switching between HD and SD and doing some last minute tests.

We should have a good idea on how the stream is going to look in a little over an hour (11A CST/12P EST) when they turn on the morning shows for each game.

I'm trying wireless first and then will be going to my 85M Ethernet over Powerline bridge and if that doesn't work, I will go to the 200M bridge that I bought yesterday. Hope I can return it tomorrow but I'll keep it if I have to in order to make the service work on my big TV.

It looks like the PS3 service is not going to be showing the network pre-game feeds like it does over the satellite or PC streaming. It is saying coverage will begin 15 minutes before kickoff

I'm just hoping that there isn't a few play delay from the video stream of the ps3.

We want to use it as an extra receiver since we already had the mobile 2 go thing, to put another game on it. We usually have one receiver on the game mix channel, so might see something happen on one yet the play has happaned on the other.

Probably not a huge deal for people. A one to two play delay being behind isn't that bad.
