NHL 09 360 patch?

When is the patch supposed to be out for the 360?

Sometime this week. No one really knows, best guess is the 27th.

based on the 10-day patch test period that M$ uses, you could assume yes as tomorrow is 10 days.

2k makes me wanna throw up

Some people are blind 2k loyalists to a fault. I mean, rabid. I can actually understand the EA haters... for the better part of a decade now, EA's earned that, but what did 2k do to create such blind loyalty?

Some dude on the NCAA forums on OS was telling the EA rep over there that the best they could to do make a good game was let 2k make an NCAA game. I played 2k's attempted at NCAA football. It was not good. At all.

It isn't blind loyalty, and I will say I have enjoyed many a 2Ksports game. Top Spin 3 (tennis series) was made by 2k and I enjoyed that game, plus I use to play the 2k games on PS2. Issue with 2k now is, it just doesn't match up to EA's hockey. EA has the skills stick and plays like a sim game, where as 2K's NHL game still makes you use buttons to shot/pass and plays like an arcade game.

Let me give you a little example. When I bought my Xbox from some guy, I got both NHL 08 and NHL 2k8. I looked at the guide for 2k8 and the controls were just insanely poor. To shoot was like X+RB, slap shot was Y+LB or something, pass was two buttons. It was just insane, because no two shots were alike. Hitting was something else, and you needed to press buttons for your players to skate backwards. It was just way way to many buttons for me to want to learn. The game play wasn't bad, but you could tell it was arcade. 2K with the Top Spin series showed a game could be a sim, but the failed to show it in Hockey.

One of many things..

Board play, faceoffs, puck physics, and goalie play all kill EA.

2K just lacks the fun factor really. Something about it just doesn't feel right.

It has to much of an arcade feel for me as I mentioned. Little things like faceoffs don't really add anything, because there are games where you have like 5-10 faceoffs only, and it is such a minor thing, it isn't going to bother me if the faceoff dynamic in EA's version is not up to 2k's.

EA's version just looks more real, where as 2k's you feel like you're at the bowling alley playing with the three buttons and joystick thing.

Well I played a quick offline game to test the patch out, mostly on the penalty issue and there is a difference I found. Yes there are a lot of penalties, but the majority of them are on players not playing the puck, but rather playing the man. I did a few of them on purpose to see what I could get away with, and it isn't much. Example, if the puck is in the corner and two players are going after it, you WILL get called if you just go right after the man. I think I took about 4-5 penalties just by doing that lol.

The one thing I noticed, and it could be nothing, but it seems as if the hitting has been brought back a bit. The hitting seemed really stiff. I was the Penguins and had Hal Gill and a perfect set up for a massive hit, and he didn't even do the hitting motion.

I didn't see a problem with that. I went after guys just after they passed on purpose, and so far I didn't get a call, OR that stiff hit thing happened and nothing happened at all. In a 5minute game I took about 7-10 penalties I think, but most of those were on purpose, as I don't myself hit players to often chasing for the puck. So people like that will have a massive problem because you'll find yourself on the PK most of the game. A lot of it now is about finishing your check rather then starting it. If you are in the middle of a check and you hit the guy after he passes, you are fine. But if the guy passes, and then you go after him and hit him, you will get called.

Basically I think now if you play OTP, you won't find guys hitting you 100feet away from the puck and getting away with it. From what I've seen, this will make people actually play the game, and not just hit what ever is moving. I still need to look at the list of things in the patch and see what else is fixed.

this patch got so much hate on the forums. either I didn't realize that much of the NHL community were cheesy fuckheads, or this patch was truly over the top.
