Does the National Hockey League's Winter Classic doesn't even need winter? The new Dodgers owners don't think so. The new owners of the team hope to host the NHL's annual outdoor showcase at Dodger Stadium.

"They put a man on the moon," Dodgers chairman Mark Walter told the Los Angeles Times. "They can make it work."

Wrigley Field, Fenway Park and Citizens Bank Park have hosted the NHL's outdoor game and is scheduled to take place every year until 2021, at least. The 2013 game will be held at Michigan Stadium in Ann Arbor, Mich.

While it would seem that Los Angeles would be an odd choice for outdoor ice, the Kings have done it before. In 1991, the team played an exhibition game outdoors in Las Vegas.

Dodgers president Stan Kasten, the former president of the NHL's Atlanta Thrashers, said he doesn't know if the NHL would be interested in playing the game in Los Angeles.

The other southern team thats always rumoured was Dallas in the new football stadium there since apparantly they can control things like humidity and such really well in that place.
 
Can you imagine the Winter Classic and the Rose Bowl happening a 10 minutes' drive away from each other? They put an outdoor ice skating rink outside of Staples at LA Live during winter, so they could easily pull this one off. If the Kings win the Cup this year and become year-in-year-out contenders then hockey support in LA could be at an all-time high. I don't think it's a bad idea at all.
 
It is not a bad idea simply because the NHL can't keep using the same teams over and over again in Winter Classics. You need to start opening it up to other teams and market the entire league, not just the East coast. If they are smart they would do like a LA vs Vancouver game or LA vs Edmonton would be a good draw as well. Not to many huge rivals out in the West side of things as big as the east has, but to do something like that would really help.
