sorry for reviving an old thread but I figure I'll let the groans fly.

I disagree with several of the spots here.

My biggest one is Nickelback. Everyone judges them(probably rightly so) from their newer stuff but there was a time that they actually released some credible albums that were actually bordering on great. Curb, State, Silver Side Up all come to mind. But Silver Side Up had the song that began their downfall. With "How You Remind Me" came some radio success and since then its like they try to write the music that climbs the charts and mindlessly people follow. I was one who actually waste the money on their garbage they spew out now, but they occasionally have glimpses of their old stuff that makes the money spent justifiable. I could agree with them being on here if they had nothing prior to The Long Road but they do and it was great music and I can't bear to put that band on there for that.

Also Creed and 3 Doors Down are very similar in that. Albeit their success came much quicker and ended up causing them to have much less. But with Creed, I prefer their music on Human Clay and prior and some of the new music they have recently released has been pretty good as well. In between still flashes. 3 Doors Down, I can see holding a spot here but not number 2. There one cd that had much respect from me was their first which was recorded before they were even on a record label.

Others such as Journey and Live I disagree with but I'm not gonna argue as that is a matter of taste. But with those, its like one acts like they put their "recorded for radio" shit out from day one and people forget or don't look for their good stuff, just purely looking for what is popular, overplayed, etc.

Must have missed this thread the first go round. Good list. Really didn't disagree with much. Jouney was probably the only one that really caught me off guard. I'd also move Nickleback to #1 which is saying a lot considering how poorly I think of Limp Bizkit. Maybe it's cause its been a while since Limp Bizkit was relevant, but to me Nicleback is probably the worst thing to happen to music. Even more so than Limp Bizkit. Just pure awfulness.

Music is a tough subject. So objective. Generally I just go with the whatever floats your boat stance. I did think some great points were made in the discussion though.

I liked the debate on clueless fans vs. those who know good and bad music or musical talent. I think thats very true. I enjoy both Three Days Grace and Shinedown. Have just about every album from both and enjoy them. But really neither are that talented of musicians. Anyone arguing otherwise is nuts.

People have a tendency to think if they like a band, that band must be super talented. It's not usually the case. Doesn't mean you shouldn't listen to them and continue to enjoy them though. You should listen to what you find to be enjoyable. Just don't be surprised if others dislike it and tear it apart. Numerous bands that I listen to or like have been blasted in this thread and most criticism was 100% fair or spot on. But at the end of the day, these bands (as untalented as they may be) make music that I enjoy listening to so I'm going to listen to them.

Something else worth mentioning is the clear effect that gaining mainstream recognition has on a band. So many of the bands mentioned in this thread either in the list or discussion are placed into the category of "They weren't that bad until they got popular" and I would agree with a lot of them. Don't get me wrong, I listen to tons of mainstream music but seriously, there is nothing that will kill a band's sound faster than gaining mainstream success. So many bands that I really enjoyed pre-mainstream are now simply meh. Disappointing.

Journey.

Journey was formed by former members of Santana, best known for guitarist Neal Schon. Growing up, I was forced fed this shit on a daily basis. My mother loved Journey, my sister loved Journey, and my father loved Journey. However, there was always something standing in my way from ever really liking the bands music - and yes, they did make some good songs, and they are far more musically gifted than my #20 band, but again, there's that one thing that always stood in my way from actually appreciating anything these guys ever did... and that would be lead singer, Steve Perry. One music expert put it best, when he described Perry's vocals as ''nails going down a chalkboard.'' Until I read that, I never could quite place the annoyance in Perry's voice. But yeah, that is exactly the experience I have to this very day, whenever I hear a Journey song. The only thing worse than hearing this guy sing, is looking at him on stage. You think Billy Squier looked bad? Check this fucking guy out.

Positives: Neal Schon. Talented guy.. Worked his ass off since he was 15. The band was musically gifted, so I'm not taking that away from them, and they did manage to throw out a few decent songs - but Steve Perry is more than enough to throw them at this spot.

:applause: wow, you just really made any case whatsoever. God damn me for saying Nickelback doesn't belong in the list of Worst 20 rock bands because a dj says they suck. And because they are a dj, they are supposed to have credibility. I mean where would that leave a person like me, that has multiple members of my family well established within the music industry?

Nickelback may not be the most talented but there are literally thousands upon thousands of bands worse than them. Some of you may truly hate Nickelback and I can respect that, but I'd be willing to bet that 80% of the people in here that acts like they hate Nickelback are probably doing it to make everyone else think they are "cool" or just trying establish themselves as having e-rep.

I would also be incredibly interested to hear that if you are looking for talent how bands such as Deep Purple and Nirvana who basically played the most simplistic and dumbed up songs ever written didn't make the list but Nickelback actually puts out songs that are incredibly difficult to replicate on a guitar. I mean if you want to go as far as talent...Nickelback, as far as musical talent goes is/was on a much higher level than Nirvana or Deep Purple. Neither of them have vocals worth a shit. But I guess it shows you have a huge e-pene if you say Nirvana is cool and even bigger if you pick on a band like Nickelback.

Also I love everyone's creativity. Nickelback sucks. He's a dj, he has credibility. Nickelback sucks. Nickelback is the worst ever.

Fucking use some sort of reasoning mindless followers. Nickelback could actually play their instruments but haven't seen 1 person in here stating anything about Nirvana or Deep Purple. They were lesser musicians and on the same level vocally.
