In its first two days on sale in Japan, the PlayStation Vita has managed to sell 312,407 units, beating the PSP's opening numbers but falling short of Nintendo's 3DS launch sales.

Japanese games magazine, Famitsu, revealed the sales for Saturday December 17 and Sunday December 18, citing data collected by Enterbrain.
In comparison, Nintendo 3DS sold 371,326 units over its opening two days, Famitsu notes, but the PSP managed less than half Vita's numbers.
It's been reported that Sony shipped 700,000 units to cover the launch of its new handheld, 500,000 of which were the 3G/Wi-fi model which Sony shipped as a limited edition which includes 100 hours of free 3G access.
