Good drive to start the half. Morris doing a great job getting yards, and I like that Fred Davis is being targeted in short situations to move the chains. He's been invisible so far this season.

RGIII proving he's legit. Bounced back after a terrible first-half, got the team moving to 17 unanswered points and then put the team on his back on an 80 yard drive, and then got the team over halfway there in the final drive without timeouts until that sack. The lack of discipline is pretty apparent, but the Trent Williams to Jordan Black drop off was more than apparent in this game. The refs also let the teams play it out, and the only gripe I have is the no-call on the PI on Leonard Hankerson when he was in double-coverage.

Stopped the run today, generated turnovers and I know with the NFL rules now that teams are going to give up a lot of yards, but we gave up the big plays and you can't have that.

Pros

1.) RGIII recovered from a forgettable first-half to lead the team to score 17 unanswered points and put the Redskins back in the game. He led the team on an 80 yard drive to set up the defense to make a stop, and then started leading the team downfield to tie the game when an inopportune sack deflated the team and led to them breaking down. RGIII was also under constant pressure, with Trent Williams out for most of the game and Jordan Black just could not keep up. In addition to 221 yards passing, he put up 85 yards rushing, and did not throw an interception. Ball security is an issue, but that is easy to correct.

2.) Alfred Morris once again performed well on the ground, gaining 78 yards for a 4.6 average and a touchdown. Morris always seems to get positive yardage and I would love for the Redskins to run the ball with him even more than they do currently.

3.) Rob Jackson and Chris Wilson did a pretty good job replacing Orakpo. Jackson had an interception in the end zone for the Redskins first score of the game, and all three tackles went for a loss. Wilson was solid on special teams and also had a half-sack. Ryan Kerrigan also stepped up and split that sack with Wilson, but was always around Dalton today.

4.) Refs actually called a good game. There was some confusion near the end, but that was fine I thought. The only thing I saw was a missed call on DPI on Leonard Hankerson on a deep route, but I wasn't on the field to judge whether or not it was a catchable ball without the defensive contact.

Cons

1.) Mental mistakes again. The defense was caught napping on the first play of the game, where the Bengals scored on a play out of the Wild Cat. The Redskins were also penalized six times for 60 yards, and there were two near the end which killed the comeback chance. It's also not like the Bengals played perfect ball either, as they were penalized eight times for 80 yards.

2.) While the defense did a good job shutting down the run and creating two turnovers, they had too many big plays go through the air. The Bengals have a lot of depth on offense, and they just proved today that the Redskins don't have the help in the secondary. They also had no answer for AJ Green, who tore them up today and seemed to be the go-to guy on every third-down. This is the first time I've seen Andy Dalton in extended action, and he really impressed me today.

3.) Without Pierre Garcon, the deep passing attack has suffered. The longest play through the air today was 29 yards to Fred Davis, and the Bengals, who have been susceptible to the pass so far this season, always had a second man back to take away the deep route.

4.) What was with the offensive play-calling in the first half? It's almost like they forget RGIII could move around and out of the pocket, and he struggled to get into a rhythm because they weren't rolling him out and creating some separation out there. They should have made that change when Williams went down, not wait out the half.

5.) Losing Trent Williams hurt. I know he hasn't made the progress to the elite level many expected him to, but Williams is still better than most out there just based on athleticism alone. The drop-off between him and Jordan Black was embarrassing. Williams did try to make it back at the end of the first half, but they shut him down, so I am hopeful this won't linger.

One more positive, at least this proves where the Redskins need to focus in the draft- in the secondary and on the offensive line.

its a great thing that he did recover.....and it is true that RGIII is proving to be all that he can be. maybe even more than what most would expect.

Shannan made a great decision to move Morris to #1 RB.....had me wondering why and Helu. Morris is strong and more agile than i expected.

thank goodness we have 2 sets of shoes that fill Orakpo's shoes. kinda makes you wonder how "great" Orakpo is hyped out to be.

i suppose the refs did a decent job. i just dont like the fact that another Unsportsman like Penalty killed them AGAIN at near the end of the game. need to work on discipline

i will agree with your "Cons". but we do have hope and promise. now we just need to build a solid fundamental team with discipline that RGIII can lead to another SB Ring.....soon

Oh yeah, it's a given that this team needs to work on discipline. Though on the whole, it's still a pretty young team so it is somewhat understandable.

I also agree with your final statement, though just from this game, it was just as winnable for us as it was for the Bengals. Redskins still have some work to do, but there is a clear direction, very unlike previous regimes.

Trent Williams is "day to day" with a bone bruise in his right knee. RGIII took way too many shots and Jordan Black was called on multiple holding penalties, so we've got to hope Williams can suit up and play next week.

The Washington Redskins have agreed to contract terms with free agent running back Ryan Grant, a person with knowledge of the situation confirmed Tuesday evening.

The former Green Bay Packer was flying to the D.C. area Tuesday evening. Grant also worked out for the Chicago Bears on Tuesday.

The Redskins were down to one healthy running back, rookie Alfred Morris, with Evan Royster (knee) and Roy Helu Jr. (foot) both injured. It wasn’t immediately clear what roster move the Redskins made to create room on the 53-man roster for Grant.

A six-year veteran, Grant has rushed for 4,016 yards in his career, averaging 4.3 yards per carry. He has 25 rushing touchdowns.

Grant started 14 games in 2011 but tallied only 134 carries for 559 yards.

Solid addition to the backfield, and it gives time for Helu and Royster to get healthy.

Was at the game today. Don't care about either teams but Jesus, Fedex is one loud stadium.

I spent the whole game screaming and stomping on the metal floor. It gets deafening in there. I never understood why they don't play a major bowl game at FedEx. It's big enough and certainly gets loud enough

Morris is a good starter, and Royster is still doing a good job. Grant is a good addition, even though losing Helu is tough. Still, he was very limited in games and this gives him the rest of the season to rest his Achilles and strengthen it back up for next season, as well as deal with the turf toe injury.

Injury updates: Williams did not practice, and neither did Cedric Griffin, a concern for our secondary. Both Garcon and Merweather were limited by their injuries, as was Royster.
