Yeah, I just saw this. Looks like it's over.
I hate it, but I have to start praying for a Big East invite for my Jayhawks. And who knows how long that conference will last. There's about to be 4 major conferences, and I would guess that when all the dust eventually settles in a few years that the ACC will be the 4th.

The Big East will be fine thanks to hoops. Adding Kansas & K-State would be awesome.

What would the LHN fill their time with?....I read that they only have to give ESPN one game but all their non football games would go to whatever conference they belong to (Pac-12). The Pac-12 would have to take ownership of the LHN (making it regional) or risk Texas getting special treatment again.

Wrong. All Texas has to do is agree to share some of the revenue from the LHN with the rest of the Pac-16.

Money solves everything and the LHN is (potentially) worth MUCH more than the $300 million pricetag that everyone is seeing. 3 commas are in play here, not two.

K-State, Kansas and Baylor might as well join the Mountain West it would be a better Football and Basketball conference.

What I really care about is Kansas aligning themselves with basketball schools. KU hoops will always be in fine shape if they're in a conference with schools like GTown, Nova, St. Johns, & Marquette who don't even play D1-A football.

There's reason to believe Syracuse & Rutgers leave the Big East and go Big 10. West Virginia & Pitt are likely to the ACC.
I would guess that UConn is in the same boat as Kansas. Not sure anyone would want Louisville either.
Big East will have plenty of basketball schools but it could take some work to get to 8 football school. Kansas, UConn, Louisville, Cincinnati, and South Florida (keep only for this reason) make 5. Recruit Memphis (also a good basketball add) for 6. Not sure about TCU's future right now but they would make 7, so 1 football school would still be needed. Regardless, I doubt that's an auto BCS bid league anyway.

The New York Post is claiming that the Big East has reached out to multiple Big 12 schools to offer a "soft landing" if the Big 12 breaks. They don't know which schools, but word is that last year there was a plan in place to add KU, K St, Missouri, & Iowa St. IF that plan is still in place, then Iowa St is believed to the be odd man out with the addition of TCU. This would give the league 20 members in basketball (East & West Divisions) and 12 in football.

As you have probably noticed being in NY now, Big East fans really only care about hoops anyway. As a Big East (hoops) fan myself, I would love to add Kansas, K-State, Mizzou, and Memphis.

I'd really hate to see Syracuse go, especially as a G'town fan. Nobody cares about Rutgers either way.

Texas would have to give up LHN if it went to the Pac-12, which has equal revenue sharing and pools its third-tier TV rights in a series of regional networks.


But if the Big 12 comes apart, another way for Texas to hold onto LHN may be joining the Atlantic Coast Conference, two sources close to the situation said Monday. ESPN holds the TV rights in the ACC and also owns and operates LHN.

But the ACC would only come into play if Oklahoma left for the Pac-12 and the Big 12 busted up, sources said.

One source close to the situation said the ACC, which is trying to fend off a potential raid by the Southeastern Conference (Virginia Tech continues to be mentioned by sources as an SEC target), would possibly look to add Texas, Syracuse, Connecticut and Rutgers to grow to 16.

First time I've heard this.....this is what I found regarding the matter:

COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Atlantic Coast Commissioner John Swofford shot down a report Monday night that his league was considering adding Texas, Syracuse, UConn and Rutgers.

“I need to read more to see what we’re doing,” Swofford said laughing. “That’s news to me.”

Orangebloods.com quoted a source Monday night that the ACC, trying to fend off a potential raid by the SEC – who might take Virginia Tech – would look to add Texas along with Syracuse, UConn and Rutgers for a 16-team league. Swofford spoke to reporters from CBSSports.com, SI.com and the New York Post at halftime of the Miami-Maryland game.

“I think we see a lot of things that are written, blogged and speculated about right now,” Swofford said. “We’re not a point at doing anything from a conference standpoint other than a lot of discussion, analysis and seeing what the landscape may hold moving forward. That’s way beyond any type of discussion we’ve had.”

The ACC’s current media rights deal is split evenly among all members. If, hypothetically the ACC added Texas, the Longhorns would bring their Longhorn Network and earn more than the other ACC members.

Swofford said equal revenue sharing among ACC members “has been a very strong principle of our league since the middle ‘80s.”

“I was AD in this league when we went to that fundamental principle and it’s been a very strong one ever since then,” Swofford said. “I think that it’s one that has a lot to do with the stability of conferences, just fundamentally.”

Swofford also was asked about the, uh, colorful helmets Maryland debuted on Monday night.

“They’re unique,” Swofford said. “And I think they’re appropriate for the state of Maryland with the flag and wearing the state colors for a state university.”
