If you rest on your laurels - sales will fall.

All that said, as I've repeated often here the past few days, I love Madden 11. It's not without its faults, but with the right sliders it plays a damn good game.

That's pretty damning evidence right there. The difference in popularity between the NFL and NHL is HUGE, and the numbers for the NHL game are approaching Madden even with a competing franchise in NHL 2K (granted there will be no 2K this year). And I never even thought NBA 2K outsold Madden.

Anyways needless to say if you've got an NFL game that sells as much as an NHL game you've definitely got to notice there is something wrong. No offense to hockey, it's just not NEARLY as popular.

That's how all of those sites always start out, MM and OS included. Then they start getting free copies of the games and invited to community events and all that "For the community, by the community" stuff goes right down the crapper.

Yeah that's the problem, they give these dudes inside access, free stuff and make them feel special. Then their relationship with EA completely changes, they start thinking their friends with the dudes. After that all they do is defend EA either out of blind loyalty or fear of losing their access.

How they go down there every year, see things stay the same then come back and do free marketing for EA hyping the game up is beyond me. EA was real smart for pulling that trick they got these guys in their pocket.

Yup.
I went to two community events, got free games, kept ripping them when they released crap (aka Madden 10) and got shown the door.
I always went to these things thinking I was doing it for the community, not EA Sports.
I didn't care if they gave me free stuff - of course I'm gonna take it - but the second I couldn't write what I wanted to write, I would have dropped those suckers in a heartbeat.
As it happened, they dropped me. LOL.

I refuse to be an apologist for EA Sports.

It's a shame about Pasta ... because he does have a good blog. But writing stuff like that, defending EA after five years of declining Madden sales is just sad.

Yes the economy is a factor, no doubt. But the people have spoken - they want more out of Madden.

I'd be curious to see what MLB The Show's 5-year numbers are, same for Fifa, NHL and NBA2k.

If their 5-year numbers are dropping, then it's definitely the economy. If not...

Exactly why I never go to that pussy OS site. God forbid you speak the truth about the holy grail EA games and they have shit fits. They can barely get the EA dicks out of their mouths fast enough to scold you.

Im pretty sure NFL doesnt care. As long as EA is offering guaranteed money they'll bite. They love exclusive deals.

That is down right turrible. Just look at VSN. In our hockey section, there is maybe I'd say 4-5 guys who don't buy madden, and even that is a stretch I think.

I will say this, when I watch video of the developers from Madden and then NHL, if I was a fan of both and had to pick between the two based on hype it would be NHL. Those guys just do such a better job. But the main thing is, it seems like they got people in that office that want to make a great game year after year. They just have this passion about the games that I don't feel from Ian cummonme and hi group of idiots. NHL isn't a without flaws, but look at our impressions thread vs madden. We seem to be more positive and more of "well, this isn't amazing, but hey, the rest of the game is". NHL just brought in physics engine and didn't fuck it up.

I think also what hurt madden was taking away the PC game of it. I loved madden for PC. Would have made it so easy to do a lot of things with the game. But in all, what can you say when all these games are beating out football year after year.

those numbers are pretty staggering. FIFA and NHL are 4 and 5th among the bigger sports. Im not even sure soccer would be 5th in the US or Canada. So u have a less popular sport attracting more gamers each year and consistently generating positive revenue thru the tough economy over Madden....and we all know how huge the NFL is. Not to mention its a game with a huge tradition among its gamers. Its revenue has been decreasing each year

We know why that is the trend...quality vs garbage.....but when i see that it really pisses me off when i think about what EA has given us with their exclusive contract over the past 5 years. For me the game has gone downhill since madden 2003

the only thing i can feel good about with madden 11 is that i did not buy it this year

i hear ya...but he has a job to do and i respect that. i would be happy knowing he gathers up some of this info from us and passes it along to the upper team.

we are not MM so are opinion has no voice with EA. If NB can provide us with a voice thats good enough for me

Yeah. I never got banned but I just remember being "warned" a few years ago because I made a negative comment about Madden in an impressions thread or something. Apparently only "This game is awesome!" comments are allowed in the impressions thread.

And if I remember correctly I didn't even say anything like "this game sucks a dick", it was a legitimate and thought out gripe with the game. They weren't hearing any of that.

I wasn't really talking about anyone on this site. Everyone here is pretty cool and understands it's only game and it has always had some kind of faults. Sure, we all wish the things that are wrong with the game get fixed but right now, it's all we got.

But on some other websites, it's like you need a suicide watch on these guys. They are about to cut their throats if the game doesn't meet their high expectations every year. Like the guys who spend every waking hour making youtube videos nitpicking the crap over a football video game.

It blows my mind that guys would spend so much time and effort into something as silly as that.
