CBS’s SATURDAY NIGHT FIGHTS aired 9:00-11:24PM. Fast NTI ratings are only available 9:00-11:00PM so CBS’s ratings will change when released Tuesday morning.

ABC (split national college football) had live event programming Saturday night. CBS and ABC ratings and all time period rankings are tentative and subject to change.

CBS SATURDAY NIGHT FIGHTS (S) was first in adults 18-49 (1.7/05), adults 18-34 (1.7/06), men 25-54 (2.4/07), men 18-49 (2.3/07), men 18-34 (2.2/08), tied for first in adults 25-54 (1.7/05 with both NBC and ABC) and third in both households (2.3/04) and viewers (3.79m).

Compared to the 9:00-11:00PM season-to-date averages (CRIMETIME SATURDAY and 48 HOURS MYSTERY), CBS SATURDAY NIGHT FIGHTS was up +31% in adults 18-49 (from 1.3/04), +113% in adults 18-34 (from 0.8/03), +100% in men 25-54 (from 1.2/03), +156% in men 18-49 (from 0.9/03), +267% in men 18-34 (from 0.6/02), even in adults 25-54, down -44% in households (from 4.1/08) and lost -2.33m viewers (from 6.12m, -38%).

CBS average from 9-11p vs. college football

M1834: 2.2 (#1 in the tp, 0.7 ahead of ABC’s prelim football number, the closest competitor.)

M1849: 2.3 (#1 in the tp, 0.3 ahead of ABC’s prelim football number.)

The M1834 rtg was #1 in the tp for all four half hours. At 9pm, the M1849 was a tenth behind ABC, but led the tp for the remaining half hours.

lucky for me i turned this back on....i dont knwo who the 2 pussies were fighting about 30 mins before hand. But that fight was such a boring joke that i turned the channel. I would imagine that most non mma fans did the same. I turned the channle back when the local news was coming on but because this went long i got to see the start of the fedor match.

Lucky thing too because it was one hell of a fight. great action, blood and one badass fucking knockout. i never saw fedor before, but now i see why you guys think so highly of him. One tough mfer....

for the lack of advertising they put into it, no footage for fedor, cant speak english and a guy like rogers in the main event, up against College football, etc...these are very good IMO

winning the 18-34 was the goal and its something to build from

I dont think anyone, Fedor fan or not thought this show would do more than Kimbo, it is a good number and the best part is its not Kimbo getting KO'd by a LHW with Pink hair, we are talking about a legit fighter and the baddest man on the planet, not a bad intro to mainstream

from these early numbers maybe 4 to 5 million people watched Fedor KO a monster

Fast overnight ratings are out for Strikeforce. The overnights only measure the ratings from 8:00pm to 11:00pm, which means the numbers contained do not include the main event of the show. The main event started at about 11:02, so the entire main event was in the overrun, which was not measured here

But the fight was more interesting than the ratings which were not through the roof (though on par with previous MMA bouts that CBS has aired, like the one with Kimbo-Slice), keeping in mind that the post 11pm portion I haven’t seen yet will be higher, from 9p-11pm it averaged 3.79 million and a 1.7/6 rating share with adults 18-49. It did win the 10pm-11pm hour with adults 18-49 and had better results with men 18-34 where it won every half hour. Here are the ratings notes via CBS…

Even without the overrun, it looks like the show came in much stronger than Lawler-Smith but below the Kimbo Slice shows. The first Kimbo show really benefitted from a long overrun and a 15 minute fight that went so far over that it infuriated local CBS news affiliate.

The overrun number is really the key number; everyone wants to see how Fedor did in terms of viewership. The current numbers don't tell us much about that, so we'll have to wait another day or two to find out. Be very skeptical of anyone out there calling this a disaster until we see the overrun. This show was built entirely around one fight, the main event, and did not have someone like Gina Carano to push up numbers in the co-main event.

Agreed, I think CBS will be happy and want to do another Fedor fight, looks like April might be a date, Overeem was talking about fighting Fedor in April so maybe he got the heads up

Also, I really want to see if ESPN, talk show guys, etc...will talk about this fight on Monday like they did with Kimbo and some UFC fights like UFC 100, etc...

Let's not go that far. If they did half of those numbers, you wouldnt see MMA on network TV for a long time. But yeah, I understand the point you are making. The show was very good, aside from Jake Sheilds who definately had people switching off if you look at the drop from 10 to 10:30. The show had steady growth until that point.

Here is what you need to know until Monday when the overrun (main event) comes out:

*8-11 did a 2.3 (3.4 million viewers)
*It dominated all the key demos. Adults, Males, 18-34, M 18-34, M 18-45, etc
*It will definately beat Smith/Lawler, which was the achievable goal

Anyone calling this a failure dosent understand the ratings game or what the expectations were. The rating will only go up when the overrun comes in, so what you are looking at is an undeniable success.

agreed X10, you couldnt have written a better way for the fight to go down, Rogers didnt come off as a joke and get Zulu'd, his stock actually went up with his performance

Fedor displayed multiple skills and showed that he doesnt break, they played up the bloody nose and he drops Brett with a highlight reel KO that can be used for the next fight

Like I posted earlier, with the overall lack of promotion behind this event, throw in no footage of fedor, fedor doesnt speak english, rogers isnt a hype man, up against CFB, etc... this was a very good number

4 million + seeing Fedor in action like this leaves a great impression

Fedor >> kimbo is so many ways it's not even funny and I'm not a MMA follower like that yet lol...I expect this sport to continue to do well...hopefully i can see more shows on CBS.

Yeah, Kimbo was pushed much harder by EliteXC/CBS than Fedor was pushed by Strikeforce/CBS. The lack of hype pumped out for this fight was astounding, BUT...with that said...

EliteXC was bleeding red and going for broke, while Strikeforce has a business model that actually makes money. That has something to do with it.

MMA will always have a hard time pushing there stars unless they decide to learn english well enough to talk shit or be witty in an interview.

How do you push a guy with no highlights ? Not like Fedor was willing to get video taped lifting pallets of hay and beating up on Beef racks.
They gave it a good push at the end. Hopefully word of mouth brought up ratings for the M.E.

Anderson Silva by himself is not a huge PPV draw, despite arguably being the best fighter under Zuffa contract.

It's the nature of the beast.

Strikeforce is great at what it does, but they are never going to do MONSTER business because it's incredibly difficult to create new stars when you don't have consistent TV.

Strikeforce might run 20 shows next year, most will be Challengers, but it probably will be 4 CBS and 4 Showtime Main Events in a year, thats 8 shows quality shows and 4 Free ones is very good to build up stars

They already have a big show in December on Showtime and if Overeem got a heads up there might be a CBS fight in Arpil, Fedor could fight twice next year on CBS if everything works out and there is no injurys, etc...

Not saying Fedor or anyone in Strikeforce will reach mega sports status, but Fedor will be one of the bigger stars in MMA (to casual fans) if he keeps winning on CBS, most of the UFC champs are not even 'big' sports stars, only Brock and GSP at this point, Kimbo is actually bigger at this point and thats pretty damn crappy

One more CBS fight and win with Fedor put him right up there with those guys IMO, more than likely they will hype the shit out of it and blow away this rating which turned out pretty damn good for what they put behind it

Also, Showtime has a chance of getting the boxing fan to crossover with having boxing and MMA on there network and not taking shots at them, Al Bernstein just did the commentary on the Friday Challenger show
