Passing game help

Since this community is so good at responding, are there any serious passers on the forum? I only average 120 passing a game. I run shotgun,but I run a lot out of it. I only average 14 points a game but give up 12. How can I get double the numbers in points and passing yardage? Thanks in advance.

Do you know how to rocket catch, if not, learn how, that will help you so much.

Throw underneath, use slant routes over the middle of the field, try to flood out the zone with multiple WR's. Look for the deep seam, the cover 3 is flawed this year.

Dboy Rules to Success

1.) Don't throw to the defense.

2.) Look at the CB/S speed/jump ratings and adjust from there.

3.) Learn how to throw high, low, left shoulder, right shoulder. This will help you to learn to throw to only where your receiver will catch it

4.) Don't only throw bullet passes, learn when to lob. Remember that both have their risk and rewards.

5.) Becuz madden hasnt fix this yet, if a defender is facing you and is 10 or less yards under your WR never throw a bullet.

6.) You can run 30 times a game and still throw for over 200. Spread the ball to everybody. Then once they (the D) spread themselves out and bring more CBs on the field, run. They'll adjust to the run then use play action.

7.) Everything that glitters isnt gold. If you see a possible WR real deep with single coverage and you have a check down thats a solid 15 yards... Hit the 15 yards. Those 15 yarders add up and plus they're usually covered by a LB, LB < WR. Even if its a CB there learn how to direction throw/lead.

8.) IF the Person you're playing take control of the Saftey during and after the snap. Dont throw near him. He knows what he's doing.

9.) Learn how to use playmaker and direct your receivers up, left, right, or down.

10.) Last but not least, Fly's usually dont work. You'll need to use post, post coner, wheel routes. Hit your players on an angle, that way you 'know' exactly where to place the ball for your receiver.

Alot of PA passes will really help. Quick Slants and streaks with the right recivers. Learn how to read Defense's. Use motion to expose the coverage.

Learn to beat the cover 2 and the cover 3. That's all anybody runs this year. Also, learn to rocket catch. And user EVERYTHING (as far as catching the ball goes).

Your problem might be that your running most of your plays out of shotgun, and passing the ball probably a majority of the time.
Tha passing games best freind is a running game, running diffrent formations and mixing up your plays is the best way to keep a defense guessing what your doing. If you come out in shotgun every play most ppl will let u have 3 yards on the draw play and just defend against the pass, making it harder for you to score

A passing game based solely on RC won't be much of a passing game, RC if used effectively can be a great situational tool, but if u try to make it the basis of your pass game then it wont get you very far

I meant user catch everything, but not RC everything. I suggest usering everything to prevent the retarded drops some receivers have (where the ball just bounces off his hands, for example).

Throw your receiver open. Don't throw it to open receivers.

If the DB is facing you... ignore that WR.

Don't run that many go routes.

I play people who RC all the time, the funny thing is that I let them do it and they think that I don't know how to stop it.

Then late in the 4th in a crucial situation it's obvious what they're going to do and then I call the defense to stop the RC route that they've been doing to whole game. They were expecting the easy catch and 1st down but I deny it, I've won many games playing dumb clueless against opponents, letting them think that a certain route/play will be open whenever they need it.

Anyone who's played me knows that 90% of my passing game is to throw short efficient passes and to gain Yards After the Catch. Hit your RB in the flats break a would be CB tackle and pick up as much yards as you can. At the end of the day it's all about effieciency, it's better to be 5/5 and have only 100 yards passing with 1 TD. Then it is to be 10/17 for 300 yards but 2 INTS.

I can't tell you how many times my QB has had a perfect passer rating. Just last night I played a lvl 20 opponent and Tony Romo was 8/8 with 2 TD's. That means that I only passed 2 times each quarter but all of the passes were caught and they all went for at least 30 yards.



Not trying to tute my own horn but I'm real good at passing in '09. You have to spend hours labbing the plays and you have to know what's going on with all routes at all times. One of my most effective passing plays is a play where my receiver runs a short route but then breaks off of it and 90% of the time is left wide open with only 1 man to beat. They only thing is that when I throw to that WR he's off the screen, there's no way I would have noticed him being open if I didn't practice this play alot. I've played over 200 hundred ranked games online and only like 2 of the opponents I've faced could call a defense to consistently stop this play.

They take along time to find but you have to find those plays that are hard to stop even when your opponent knows it's coming. For instance, it's easy to stop a curl/stop/go/in/out route when you know it's coming. You gotta find plays with route combinations that will make your opponent spend the whole game and still not suceed in finding a D to consistently stop it.

It takes time and I know it's hard to do but you have to get off of XBL ranked games for awhile if you really want to do better.

its about knowing what coverages do what.

know this, a lot of times the deep ball won't be open, but as one said before, always look at the cornerbacks speed compared to your receiver's, if you have a receiver with 97 speed and a corner with 91 speed covering him, its going to be ok to try and throw some deep balls on a cover 3 defense when the corner isn't bailing out.

but most of passing is just recognizing what the defense is running and throwing accordingly.

examples would be a Cover 2's weak deep middle protection, which means you can get a post route if you throw it the right way. cover 3's weak protection of the buzz zone, man coverages weak protection of outs and slants, its just knowing football really.

obviously your not going to throw deep all the time, but just remember a 6 yard pass is a win, and precision passing goes a long way in this game. the best thing to do, is watch the defense and recognize what coverage it is by what the DB's do.

some tips are, in a cover 2, the safety's will always be standing on the same yard line, and neither of them will step up into the box, the corners will always stay towards the line of scrimmage also.

in a cover 3, you'll usually see a safety step up into the box, along with the corners dropping and giving the WR 10 yards so they don't get beat deep.

if you ever see a cover 4, which is when the db's will drop back and the safety's will appear as if they're running a cover 2, always throw to the flats because there is no protection due to the fact that the linebackers are covering hook routes (yellow circle) and even if they are playmaker'd to cover the flats, they aren't fast enough to cover whoever you have running the route.

its just football knowledge, and you can practice to get it, or play 100 games to get it, learning trick plays, rocket catching, or learning bullshit moves like throwing it to a guy you can't see because you know he'll be open due to the fact that the other person can't cover him simply because he can't see him wont get you far unless you devote your time and become cheddar.

anyone who's game revolves around the rocket catch, or bullshit like that, doesn't know football in the first place and if they were forced to actually play without taking advantage of weak AI, they would be horrible.

do what you want, the real Keys to passing though are knowing how to, when to, and what defense to throw into. and that comes with time and practice.

I'm not going to lie I could not stop this, he scored on almost every drive but he had absoloutely no defense and I also scored quick on every drive, non lasting over 3 plays. At the end of the game we both had 50+ points and he won by 4.

He won because he had a play that "exploited the AI" as you would say. I didn't complain, call him a cheeser or get mad, you know what I did? I got in the lab and found out what play he was doing and I found a defense to stop it. At least 3 games since then people have tried to constantly do this but now I know how to shut it down. RC and any thing else you can think of can be stopped if you take the time instead of complaining about it. There is no unstoppable offene or defense that's why you got to spend the time labbing to find a huge variety of plays just in case you need them.

Yes but reading a NFL defense is hard. You just can't come up to line and say "ok well the safety are on different lines so they're in cover 2" or "the LB's are shuffling around so they're about to blitz" and you surely can't simply motion a WR across the field to read if th D's in man or in zone.
Madden makes it way to easy to read Defenses, it's not even realistic. Believe it or not in the NFL defenses actually do things to disquise what they're doing and no player has ever read a defense like Peyton Manning does. That's like saying winning the superbowl 3 times is easy just because Tom Brady has.

Yes it can be done, but it's not as simple as it is in madden. In madden I can tell if a corner is in man or not by how he lines up against the WR, it's a 2 second easy read. In real life you'd have to study film to see the tendencies and decide whether or not the CB is in man or zone. Madden should make it more difficult, I'm tired of people just motioining 1 person to reveal whether the defense is in man or zone. It takes no skill

Anyways it doesn't matter because I don't run cover 1,2,3, or 4 and like I said I give the same look everyplay on defense.

its great and all that you play high school football, but were not talking about your high school football team, we're talking about Madden NFL 2009.

pro teams show their coverage all the time, apparently you don't know football well enough to realize it. when you see corners close to receivers and trying to jam them, it usually means that they have over the top help from safety's and it also usually means they're running a cover 2 or cover 1, either way, a quarterback can exploit that with a slant, out, and possibly the deep ball if they can put enough touch on the ball, its harder to throw deep on a cover 2 unless you flood the zone, but if you have a guy like Peyton Manning, who can throw every kind of ball, you might be able to get it.

now that's real life, in Madden much of the same applies. when you See defensive backs close to your receivers, it usually means they are going to try and jam them off the line of scrimmage, which in turn means, you can take advantage of a slant, out, or possibly deep route depending on what the safeties do, most of the time the safety's give away what the coverage is. but knowing where a defense is weak because of how they show their coverage helps a lot.

even if people come out showing the same look, which I don't believe you can do, obviously you can come out in the same formation every down, but eventually the safeties and corners will show their hand by either doing nothing, or doing something, you don't have a choice. but, if somehow they can show the same coverage look every time and still run multiple coverages out of it, it is still possible to beat it, based off of being patient, and letting things develop for yourself.

for example, if a guy is somehow showing a cover 2 look but is actually running a cover 3, your going to be able to hurt him with the deep ball, because his corners aren't giving your receiver the respect of distance and if your receivers speed is close to the corners most of the time that's a win.

there isn't a coverage in the game you can't throw into and get some yards, there isn't a pass play in the game that you can't reasonably stop unless its cheese like Houston boy's methods. sure, you can eventually find out how to stop the RC and trick plays and all that bullshit. but I for one, joined this community because I was tired of playing those people every night I got on Madden or NCAA.

there are plenty of helpful people on this website that would gladly take you in a play now game and show you some tricks, I don't have madden anymore, (I traded it in because I honestly didn't like it) but there are plenty of guys that are just as good as if not better then me on this site, and ask around, I'm one of the best on this site, I don't get beat a lot. and I don't have to Rocket Catch or throw passes to invisible receivers to do it either.
