Passing game help

I play people who RC all the time, the funny thing is that I let them do it and they think that I don't know how to stop it.

Then late in the 4th in a crucial situation it's obvious what they're going to do and then I call the defense to stop the RC route that they've been doing to whole game. They were expecting the easy catch and 1st down but I deny it, I've won many games playing dumb clueless against opponents, letting them think that a certain route/play will be open whenever they need it.

Anyone who's played me knows that 90% of my passing game is to throw short efficient passes and to gain Yards After the Catch. Hit your RB in the flats break a would be CB tackle and pick up as much yards as you can. At the end of the day it's all about effieciency, it's better to be 5/5 and have only 100 yards passing with 1 TD. Then it is to be 10/17 for 300 yards but 2 INTS.

I can't tell you how many times my QB has had a perfect passer rating. Just last night I played a lvl 20 opponent and Tony Romo was 8/8 with 2 TD's. That means that I only passed 2 times each quarter but all of the passes were caught and they all went for at least 30 yards.



Not trying to tute my own horn but I'm real good at passing in '09. You have to spend hours labbing the plays and you have to know what's going on with all routes at all times. One of my most effective passing plays is a play where my receiver runs a short route but then breaks off of it and 90% of the time is left wide open with only 1 man to beat. They only thing is that when I throw to that WR he's off the screen, there's no way I would have noticed him being open if I didn't practice this play alot. I've played over 200 hundred ranked games online and only like 2 of the opponents I've faced could call a defense to consistently stop this play.

They take along time to find but you have to find those plays that are hard to stop even when your opponent knows it's coming. For instance, it's easy to stop a curl/stop/go/in/out route when you know it's coming. You gotta find plays with route combinations that will make your opponent spend the whole game and still not suceed in finding a D to consistently stop it.

It takes time and I know it's hard to do but you have to get off of XBL ranked games for awhile if you really want to do better.

Playing D a lot of the time I disguise my defensive plays other than cover 1 and 2 by pressing the WR's a lot. Make sure you do have that over the top help though. Doing this however opens up the flats as WRs that can block and a RB that's fast can gain 20 yards easy.

I think the one you should be taking tips from is Userkpikk, I know it's not the same game but in our NCAA OD we had a good defensive battle (A lot to do with his DBs dropping picks) and that's part of playing offense is being the poo at defense as well. Anyways, Userpikk does know how to read Ds and in the fourth he was able to pick apart my defense for an easy game winning field goal. The turning point was a third and long and he found a hole in the flats.

Userpikk knows what he's talking about, I for one can attest to that.

its great and all that you play high school football, but were not talking about your high school football team, we're talking about Madden NFL 2009.

pro teams show their coverage all the time, apparently you don't know football well enough to realize it. when you see corners close to receivers and trying to jam them, it usually means that they have over the top help from safety's and it also usually means they're running a cover 2 or cover 1, either way, a quarterback can exploit that with a slant, out, and possibly the deep ball if they can put enough touch on the ball, its harder to throw deep on a cover 2 unless you flood the zone, but if you have a guy like Peyton Manning, who can throw every kind of ball, you might be able to get it.

now that's real life, in Madden much of the same applies. when you See defensive backs close to your receivers, it usually means they are going to try and jam them off the line of scrimmage, which in turn means, you can take advantage of a slant, out, or possibly deep route depending on what the safeties do, most of the time the safety's give away what the coverage is. but knowing where a defense is weak because of how they show their coverage helps a lot.

even if people come out showing the same look, which I don't believe you can do, obviously you can come out in the same formation every down, but eventually the safeties and corners will show their hand by either doing nothing, or doing something, you don't have a choice. but, if somehow they can show the same coverage look every time and still run multiple coverages out of it, it is still possible to beat it, based off of being patient, and letting things develop for yourself.

for example, if a guy is somehow showing a cover 2 look but is actually running a cover 3, your going to be able to hurt him with the deep ball, because his corners aren't giving your receiver the respect of distance and if your receivers speed is close to the corners most of the time that's a win.

there isn't a coverage in the game you can't throw into and get some yards, there isn't a pass play in the game that you can't reasonably stop unless its cheese like Houston boy's methods. sure, you can eventually find out how to stop the RC and trick plays and all that bullshit. but I for one, joined this community because I was tired of playing those people every night I got on Madden or NCAA.

there are plenty of helpful people on this website that would gladly take you in a play now game and show you some tricks, I don't have madden anymore, (I traded it in because I honestly didn't like it) but there are plenty of guys that are just as good as if not better then me on this site, and ask around, I'm one of the best on this site, I don't get beat a lot. and I don't have to Rocket Catch or throw passes to invisible receivers to do it either.

We Corners at my school have a coverage called "press bail", we come up to the WR's and get in pressing position. The QB reads our position and as soon as he takes his eyes of and put his head down to snap the ball we "bail" out and cover deep without pressing. This is to prevent screens because obviously no QB is going to throw a screen to a WR he thinks is being pressed.
We also have a coverage that's the opposite of that, 2 times this year we've picked off balls because the screen looked wide open because we don't move up to a press position until the QB takes his eyes of us.
We do things to confuse the offense and we're just in highschool.

I see teams in the NFL all the time who constantly move their LB's and safety's towards and away from the LOS before the snap so the QB can't make the read on who's blitzing and who's not.

I'm just saying that Madden isn't like that, if a CB is close to a WR then you know he's pressing. If a defender follows a WR across the field you know he's in man. So from my observations my highschool defense is harder to read than the defenses in Madden.
Which means that Madden should make it a little bit harder to read defenses.
If I'm in man and my WR motions across the field I'm going to follow him by running, if I'm in zone I'm still going to follow him by running. None of that shuffling/running shit to reveal the coverage. It's just plain stupid that madden makes the read that easy, it's not even realistic. Nobody thinks "okay I'm in zone so I have to shuffle or I'm in man so I have to run". In real life defenders just move however they want to.

Now in madden the way I run my passing plays I don't have to read coverages, I never have and if the game stays like this I never will. I just look at the position of the defense, obviously if I see the whole D stacked to the right I'm not going to make it my first priority to pass to that side of the field. If everyting on the Defense is even I just run the play.

Like I said it's because I practiced alot. My top 10 passing plays that I use, I've practiced at least 100 times in practice mode against "random D", contain plays, heavy blitzes, CB blitzes, in goal like situations, when I need to go deep, when I need short yardages. That way when I'm in the actual game I just react.
For instance in a certain play I know that when my first read "B" is covered there's a 90% chance that "x" will be open. I can throw the ball quickly without even having to look at that WR becaue I've ran the play so many times it's just natural. Or if I face a heavy blitz that I didn't expect, I already know what WR is going to be open becaue of the blitz. I'm rarely caught off guard when I'm playing offense.
I know how to tell before the snap what coverage the D is in but I don't like doing that it's kinda cheap. It took hours of labbing but I found good enough plays so I don't have to make any pre-snap reads.

You may be one of the best on this site, but also real good in '09. I'm alot better than what I was when I played you in '08. I'm guessing many will come in and disagreee but I'm probaly also one of the best at this site.
I've only played 2 people from this site(Salukii and Virix) and like my style or not neither one of them can say that I'm easy in this game. Salukii only beat my the 2nd time because I missed a 30 yd FG due to weather conditions and Virix beat me because Romo fumbled in a crucial situation, but that game sill could have gone either way so he probaly still might have won that one.

I wished you still had '09 so I can show you what I mean by not having to make reads, and show you that my defense is definately not easy to read. The funny thing is that when I play people online sometimes they know what my defense is doing and the still can't stop it.

And by the way I guess you didn't realize it but when I throw to a WR off the screen I also can't see him and therefore I don't know if he's being covered or not. That play is either going to be a TD catch or a INT, so I don't run it too often. I've won many games because of it and I've lost some games because I've thrown pics on that play when I needed a TD.
