For what...Paul is out next year (no?). So N.O. can get something or nothing, the NBA is only screwing the team by not letting them getting other players and possible draft pick...essentially. They say they want to help small markets but in the end, they will be helping New York.

It would be a travesty to allow the Lakers to acquire Chris Paul in the apparent trade being discussed.

This trade should go to a vote of the 29 owners of the Hornets.

Over the next three seasons this deal would save the Lakers approximately $20 million in salaries and approximately $21 million in luxury taxes. That $21 million goes to non-taxpaying teams and to fund revenue sharing.

I cannot remember ever seeing a trade where a team got by far the best player in the trade and saved over $40 million in the process. And it doesn’t appear that they would give up any draft picks, which might allow to later make a trade for Dwight Howard. (They would also get a large trade exception that would help them improve their team and/or eventually trade for Howard.) When the Lakers got Pau Gasol (at the time considered an extremely lopsided trade) they took on tens of millions in additional salary and luxury tax and they gave up a number of prospects (one in Marc Gasol who may become a max-salary player).

I just don’t see how we can allow this trade to happen.

I know the vast majority of owners feel the same way that I do.

When will we just change the name of 25 of the 30 teams to the Washington Generals?

The Lakers were giving more than they had to, but having Pual will make others want to go to the Lakers. By making this trade, LA was guaranteeing that they would be a force in FA and a top destination for years. Once Kobe leaves, the CP3 would be the main attraction, and this situation could repeat itself in x amount of years, but with Paul being in Kobes place.

Yep, this is actually a good trade for NO and a little less for the Lakers.......Houston? I don't know, because Martin/Schola>Gasol. However, I don't think the deal was vetoed because of the pieces, but instead because owners are pissed that another superstar is dictating where they want to go.

The owners are just butthurt and jealous, but they need to realize they can't control where the players will play.

I don't think it was a bad deal. Having said that, I don't believe the Hornets should move it's most marketable player while their ownership situation is up in the air. I do understand he needs to be moved, they can't just let him walk at the end of the season. But that decision should be made by an ownership group that is vested in the future of the franchise.

One theory (at least from incarceratedbob on wfan lol)...the owners were pissed that the lakers were going to get Howard (after acquiring Paul), so they squashed the trade yesterday.

Now, with Howard apparently heading to Jersey, they won't care about allowing Paul to LA.
