I was thinking the same thing. I don't know why people can't understand that we're totally content with Culpepper playing this season and letting Stafford develop.. apparently Pepp has been lighting it up now that he's back in Linehan's offense.

And not to mention that Calvin guy you mentioned. He's pretty good.

Uh, are some of you retarded? JaMarcus Russell is 5-11 as a starter. Not exactly enough games to label a QB in this league. He has showed that he can be a good QB, he just needs to be consistent. He also has shown how terrible he can be in some games by throwing 3 picks, but then again, what great QB hasn't had games like that, especially in their rookie season?

It's no doubt that Garcia is a much more experienced QB, but there is no future with him. If he wins the position battle then he deserves to play, either way, I really won't care. I just want the best guy to play.

And for the record, all bay area reports that I've read have talked about Garcia has been a great mentor and leader for JR and is doing his best to assume the back-up role and help JR come along.

Also read that he is sprinting from drill to drill and pulling young WRs aside after plays to help them out while JR slowly jogs over from drill to drill and offers very little insight to anyone.

I've been a Garcia fan my whole life because of his toughness and mentality, it wouldn't disappoint me one bit if he was named the starter. I just want JR to see more and improve his game so I can finally figure out if he has any real potential.

Everyone rips on Garcia all day long but he's put together 3 consecutive 90+ rated seasons. I'll defend the guy, he's been on a winning team as well for those 3 years. Oakland has a sweet run offense and Garcia can come in and throw a higher completion percentage than Russel's 25%. Yeah, Garcia's "bombs" travel about 15 yards but if Al Davis is really getting sexed up and wanting to throw it 80 yards to heyward-bey every play then they should at least wait a year. I wouldn't describe it as a train wreck at all. Regardless, its always successful for them if they win 6-7 games and don't fire their coach.

Oakland has a new QBs coach, new pass game coordinator, and WRs and TEs coaches who've never been lead position coaches. Perhaps this helps explain Russell's poor spring, but all the negative reports since he entered the league have done nothing to help him shed the emerging bust label.

Look at all the new coaches he has. From what I've seen i mostly like, but i know he has things he has to work on, mostly just being consistent. Definitely. Everyone loves to hate the Raiders. Its funny how much people hate the Raiders. The Raiders are more hated on this board than the Yankees.

Russell has had some accuracy issues this spring, as well. He needs to fix that asap. There's no doubt in my mind that the Raiders are going to be a run-first team so hopefully Russell won't have to do all that much, he just needs to manage the game and he'll be good. That entails converting 3rd downs and becoming a leader.

Everyone wants to label him a bust because he's on the Raiders and was the #1 pick overall but I'm not asking for much of him. If he can turn out to be another Big Ben type than I will be more happy. Just surround him with a great running game and defense and he'll be fine.

the raiders have been a train wreck since like '03, my bad, was I drunk? No it was like ten in the morning. Damn, maybe just tired. What I meant and should have said is the team now has the foundation to be successful if a QB comes in and can play decently well and i just believe Garcia can do that. He might be a dick and might not be able to throw farther than 15 yards but its tough for me to argue with the 90+ QB ratings he's posted recently.

But starting Garcia MIGHT lead to one good season and then he'll probably be a free agent or retire and Russell would be even worse off then most people think he looks now. The Raiders still have problems stopping the run, it is still a question to how good the Raiders OT's will play, and their wide receiving core is as thin as paper. I really hope the Raiders do not start Garcia.

As much as i like Russell i think a team should build a foundation for a young quarterback then draft him, not the other way around. They should've drafted Calvin Johnson two years ago #1, then i like the pick in McFadden, and then a quarterback this year (as much as i hate Stafford and Sanchez, I am a Josh Freeman fan though). I also hate how Al Davis just throws money around. The philosophy for the Raiders though won't change until Al Davis passes (He's 79). Al Davis' birthday is on independence day though so thats pretty cool.

Well gee...does this really even surprise anyone? I was telling my buddy who's a Raiders fan that don't be surprised when Garcia is the starting quarterback after bout 2-3 games in the regular season. But it looks like I underestimated things as he may be the starter come season opener.

Actually I said John Beck doesn't have the talent to be a starting NFL QB the moment he entered the draft.

Anybody with two eyeballs and a brain could have seen that if they watched him at BYU. Same goes for every Hawaii QB under June Jones and every Texas Tech QB under Mike Leach.

No talent ass clowns that throw 50 passes a game to inflate their stats and highlight tapes. These guys have no heart, no leadership ability, no toughness, and no idea about what it takes to run a pro-style offense.
