Basically, Ruben wants Brown to spend another season in Triple A. To me, this is retarded. He's 24, he OPS'd .725 in 50+ games. With Mayberry probably spending quite a bit of time at first to start the season, Brown should be every day starter in LF. he was better than Ben Fransisco.

Going to be a rough couple years for Philly fans. Their pitching will keep them in it, but their offense is going to be frustrating

The Phillies announced that they have officially declined the 2012 options for right-handers Brad Lidge and Roy Oswalt. Lidge obtains a $1.5MM buyout instead of a $12.5MM salary and Oswalt obtains a $2MM buyout instead of a $16MM salary. The team hasn't ruled out a new deal with either Lidge or Oswalt.

"We will remain in contact with representatives for both players about the possibility of bringing them back for the 2012 season,” GM Ruben Amaro Jr. said in a statement.

According to Phillies insider Todd Zolecki and Jim Salisbury, the Phillies have signed Jim Thome to a 1 year 1.25 million dollar contract.

To me Jim Thome signified the Phillies rise to prominence when he signed here in 2003. It would be great for Thome and for us Phillies fans to bookend this era with a championship run next year.

Give me Michael Cuddyer, Heath Bell, and J-Roll and we're set for next year.

My guess would be Victorino moved for prospects, Cuddyer signed to play left, Mayberry moved to center and then they take a run at Reyes. Horrible move unless they can get a top level prospect.
Indians are said to be the first team to call about him. I would only take it if they included Chisenhall

Michael Cuddyer visited the Phillies today, according to Tom Sredenschek of FOX 29 in Philadelphia . The Phillies are said to be pursuing the outfielder seriously.

The Phillies are still talking to free agent right-hander Roy Oswalt as they complete their deal with Madson, according to Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports. Many other teams are pursuing Oswalt, who seeks a multiyear deal. Rosenthal reported earlier today that the Nationals plan a major push for Oswalt.

I do not understand the need for Cuddy at all. I guess they don't want Dom Brown anywhere near the team for the next 3 years or so, but if that is the case I rather them take a run at this 26 year old guy coming out of Cuba who looks like he could mash 35 homers if he was playing in our park. I would be very happy if they could get Oswalt back for a reasonable price but a reasonable price to RAJ would be like 3 years/30 mil

I think what the Phillies are thinking is they could platoon Cuddy with Thome early on at 1st. After that, he's a 4th OF and he's a right handed bat off the bench (when have we had that?) and insurance if Mayberry falls on his face next year.

A source close to Madson told CSNPhilly.com's Jim Salisbury Tuesday night that there was no deal and talks were ongoing. Papelbon may still be in the picture.

And if we sign Cuddyer, it's not going to be cheap. He is going to get starter money this offseason which would mean Mayberry would be the one playing first and then coming off the bench once Howard comes back.

Last year, I made a guess that we would steal Cliff Lee and I got lucky. This year, with so many players to resign, I have no idea.

I also am still feeling dissapointed by the playoffs and in turn not really motivated to speculate on what they will do. It's pathetic lol.

Phillies GM Ruben Amaro Jr. said that the club never agreed to terms on a contract with closer Ryan Madson, according to Jayson Stark of ESPN. Amaro categorized the rumored four-year, $44MM contract as "unequivocally false," reports Stark.

The Phils are interested in Jonathan Papelbon, tweets Jon Heyman of SI.com, so if talks with Madson don't work out, Pap may be their new target.

The Phils' reported near-deal with Madson has unfolded curiously since the story broke on Tuesday afternoon. The holdup in it becoming official was apparently that Phillies president David Montgomery had not approved the terms. Heyman tweeted earlier this afternoon that there was little optimism that Montgomery would sign off on the pact, which had become a hot topic of discussion. There was a split among executives and agents regarding whether it would have been a good deal.
