Let's talk about guys who when they come to the plate against your favorite team or fanatsy pitcher, they make you pace.

For me, I have some obvious ones, and a few odd ones.

-Albert Pujols. Duh.

-Juan Uribe. That pudgy m'fer SWINGS AS HARD AS HE CAN at every pitch.

-Matt Holliday

-Manny Ramirez. So glad he's back in the AL, he killed the Reds.

-Adrian Gonzalez. Seems like he never swings and misses.

-Carlos Gonzalez. New addition to the list. Beast.

Guys from the past:

-Bonds. Duh.

-Howard Johnson. When I was a kid, I watched a lot of Mets & Yankees in NY. HoJo was in his hey day, with that menacing stance and HR pop.

-Albert Belle. Played in the heart of the steroid era, but I dont care, he belongs in the hall of fame. LETHAL hitter, most intimidating glare ever.

I don't think i've ever seen a player hit as many frozen rope line drives as Gary Sheffield. He absolutely killed balls. All of his HR's were line drives that got out of the park in like a half second. He never hit a lazy fly ball in his life. Just a tremendous pure hitter.

Ryan Zimmerman - Beats the shit outta the ball
Andre Ethier - Always gets on Base
A-Rod - If guys are on base, he's bringin them home.
Jeter - Gets on Base for A-Rod
Ichiro - Mr Hits.
Johnny Fuckin Damon - Guy can go the whole fuckin playoffs doing shit, and lights us up in the WS.
Michael Bourn - Once he gets on base, he's scary as hell. And he gets on base a lot.
Wes Helms - One of those former Phils, who seems to hit the shit outta ball when he plays us.
Mike Stanton - Incredible swing and is just intimidating in the box.
Chipper Jones - I have always been scared of this guy. When younger hit us a ton, now older the competitive fire still is unmatched.

Eh. I'm not sure if he does. He just doesn't have any longevity going for him and only a real handful of prime years.

Career: .295/.369/.564, 143 OPS+

Black Ink Batting - 28 (64), Average HOFer ≈ 27
Gray Ink Batting - 137 (119), Average HOFer ≈ 144
Hall of Fame Monitor Batting - 134 (99), Likely HOFer ≈ 100
Hall of Fame Standards Batting - 36 (194), Average HOFer ≈ 50

What it really comes down to is what you want out of your HOFer. If you're someone who needs arbitrary milestones (500 HRs, .300 AVG, etc.) then he's clearly not in.

If you're willing to let guys that didn't play a lot of years but played pretty dominant in those years, then he deserves consideration.

I personally don't put him in just because he wasn't dominant for a whole lot of years. I'm not a milestones guy, but I do think you have to be in the top tier part of the league for a decent amount of years. Only 93-98 were truly dominant years and I'm not sure that's enough in my world to get in.

I'm a guy who usually thinks longevity should be a small part of the equation, but I believe Belle was dominant enough during his time to go. I can see where some would disagree.

I don't think he'll get in, because of the short career, surly attitude, and the era. Anyone on the fence from the 90's will have a hard time due to the steroid cloud.

Yeah he's simply not getting in because of the person he was one way or another. Numbers wise I'm really in between on him. I can see both ends of the argument but I tend to lean towards no.
