I have to disagree with jeff on Vanity making Purple Rain a better movie. I've seen her in The Last Dragon & Action Jackson. I feel comfortable saying it wouldn't have made much difference if any at all.

I'm not a huge fan of Lovesexy either but do love a couple songs. To me his most underrated albums are Around the World in a Day, Cotroversy and The Symbol (no real title just the symbol he used in place of his name). Especially AtWiaD because it had the misfortune of being his 1st after Purple Rain. "America" is a flat out awesome song,. btw. Couldn't find a good version to post - maybe I'll try again.

I tried, but I couldn't get into 'Around the World in a Day'. I liked 'Parade' much better. To me, it's his most underrated LP.

And I actually liked the 'Batman' soundtrack. Of course, it can't compare to 'Purple Rain', but it's cool.

Yeah I liked Batdance back when it came out in 89, but now it is by far worst track on album, I love trust, the future, party man, electric chair.

While getting deep into his discography the past couple years it has been my biggest surprise by way of being better than I expected coming in, where lovesexxy is biggest surprise in not being as good as I was expecting.

Of course we have to discuss the infamous 'Black Album' - hard-hitting, angry and funky. Listening to it, you get the feeling Prince was in a dark place. It's probably why he pulled it at the last minute(in Fall 1987) and later released Lovesexy in spring 1988.

Still haven't heard it yet, I have seen mixed reviews on it, and I have steered clear of a few of his less favorable albums, namely the albums he was putting out to fulfill the end of his record contract.

I like most of it, but I'm a fan of that raw, dirty, funky shit. I know many Prince fans who couldn't get into it. I couldn't get into 'ATWINAD', so to each his own. 'Rockhard in a Funky Place' is my favorite cut.

Prince said Charlie Murphy exaggerated a few things(for comedic effect), but there was a beatdown on the court, lol. For years I read stories that Prince was a pretty good basketball player in high school despite his height.

I've seen Prince in concert three times - the Purple Rain concert in March 1985 at the Nassau Coliseum, and the Lovesexy concert in 1988/89 at Madisin Square Garden and later at the Coliseum. Nobody does it like Prince live.

Best post here. Erotic City always leaves me speechless. Remember in PCU when George Clinton was doing his version and it still sounded good. But it could never be the "real" Erotic City.

At the beginning of the Lovesexy concert, the first jam he did was 'Erotic City'. Prince and Sheila E. tore that shit UP!!

IMO, Prince had his best band from Controversy to 1999 - Prince, Dez Dickerson, Brown Mark, Dr. Fink, Lisa Coleman and Bobby Z.
