anything purple rain and before was great. I lost interest after that. the combo of 80ies hair bands and prince and the revolution didnt mesh very well. Besides, the 80ies hair bands had hotter chicks in the bands. Im not sure why they all sounded like guys though

I like "I would die 4 U", and his other songs aren't that bad, but I've never bought an album of his. He's like Bruce Springsteen to me...if his song comes on the radio, I won't change the station, but I'm also not rushing out to the store to buy the CD.

Eh, I don't know man, but if anyone could compete with MJ it'd be Prince. Prince is a GOAT no doubt but when you look at what MJ has done in the music industry, his first 4 songs with the JAckson 5 hit #1 in the country and he had what? 5 #1 singles on the Bad Album alone? Not to mention Thriller is the best studio album of all time, and before he died. Not none of this Tupac/Biggie "lets sell 10 million records after we die" mess. I think Bad hit #1 in 9/10 major countries.

In terms of fans and record sales, Prince can't compare with Michael. But I'll take Prince's music over Michael's anyday(even though I like Michael's stuff pre-Bad).

As far as Prince vs. MJ.... it’s not even close. How many instruments could MJ play and who wrote better songs both musically and lyrically? The only thing MJ has on Prince is album sales and we all know how important that is.

Radio pretty much ignored 'Dirty Mind', but it's on Rolling Stone's top 100 LPs of the 80s list. It's a combination of new wave, electro-pop/funk, rock & roll and plenty of sexual innuendo(the best song on the alum is 'When You Were Mine'). Prince didn't fit radio's stupid idea of what a "black artist" should be - they didn't know what to make of his music. Like Sly Stone before him, Prince can take elements from different styles and make it work.
