PS3 League; Enough Failed Attempts!

I will be starting a sim-style PS3 league for the Madden franchise. This league will extend from one year to another ("real-life" years, meaning from Madden 09 to 10, etc.), and we will have an active core group of owners.

I am going to commit everything in my power to make sure this league maintains strength, and not only gets off the ground, but stays afloat for a long period of time. The PS3 leagues in the past have tried and failed, and I think I have a good idea now of what we need to do (and what we need to avoid) to keep an active league going.

With this in mind, I will not be playing in this league. I set the rules and make sure everything runs smoothly for everyone else, and I am the unbiased participant. YOU guys are the people who will make this league "run". In literal terms, I am the commissioner.


For our first season, we will play with 4 to 8 members MAXIMUM in round robin fashion. The top 2-4 players will play in a Championship/Playoff tournament, and the winner will be crowned champion. The reason we will have a few amount of members is to get a buzz and interest about the league while STILL KEEPING THE LEAGUE ACTIVE. We will expand once I feel we are stable enough to do so, until we reach a full 32.


The requirements to participate for our inaugural season are as follows:

--You MUST have a minimum of 100 posts on VSN. This is to ensure that you are willing to be an active participant in "something" (if you are active on VSN, you are more likely to be active in a league). Since I don't know anyone personally, this is the only way I can guage how responsible you are. If you do not have enough posts, simply let me know you are interested so I can add you for a future season when you meet this requirement.

--You MUST be COMMITTED, not INTERESTED. I do not care if you want to be in a PS3 league, I care if you are willing to put forth some of your time to make a successful league. If you are not willing to do so, or you cannot do so for other personal reasons, simply DO NOT SIGN UP.

--You MUST be available at least 2 times per week from 8-10pm Eastern time. This is not a lot to ask, so this should not be a problem at all. If you do not have this time slot available, but do have other times available, let me know and I can make accomodations for you. If you do not have this slot or any other slots available, DO NOT SIGN UP.

Ultimate All-Madden League

Commissioner – DSpydr84​

I General Expectations:

1.1 All participants in the Ultimate All-Madden League are required to display exemplary conduct. Good sportsmanship, pride, honesty, integrity, and commitment are not suggested, but rather demanded. Not upholding to these guidelines, the ones listed below, or anything the commissioner feels could be harmful to the league, will not be tolerated and will result in immediate removal.

1.2 It is in the league's best interest to be open to all different play-styles. However, with that said, the use of glitches will be strictly prohibited. The intent of the league is to have fun, and if someone becomes a cancer, whether it’s through glitches, abusive/repetitive play-calling, rocket catches, constant deep passes, or anything the commissioner feels could be harmful to the league, they will be banished from the league.

Game type: Unranked
Quarter Length: 6 minutes
Difficulty: All-Madden
Injuries: On

III Game-play Rules/Restrictions:

A) General

2.1 Depth Chart Substitutions – Only the following depth chart substitutions are allowable:
•TE and FB are interchangeable
•OL is entirely interchangeable
•DL is entirely interchangeable
•LB is entirely interchangeable
•DB is entirely interchangeable

B) Offense

3.1 Play-clock – Do not “milk the clock” when it is unreasonable to do so. There will not be a restriction on the play clock use because I understand that situations arise that are hard to avoid, but please use good sportsmanship and do not drain the majority of the play-clock.
**Exception: When inside two-minutes at the end of each half (the 2nd and 4th quarter), you are allowed to use the entire play-clock.**

3.2 Motion – You may send any player in motion in any direction. However, once the player has been moved, you cannot motion them back to their former position in an attempt to read the defensive coverage.

You may snap the ball with a receiver behind the offense line as long as the receiver is blocking. He may not run a pass pattern.

3.3 Fourth Down – You may only attempt a fourth down conversion in the following situations:
•Within the opposing 30 yard line and the Goalline, AND 1 yard or less to gain for a first down.
•Within the opposing 30 yard line and the 50 yard line, with any yardage to gain for a first down.
•At any point in the 2nd half if you are trailing by 9 points (two scores) or more.
•At any point in the 4th quarter if you are trailing by any amount.

3.4 FB Dive – You may only attempt four (4) FB Dives from any formation in one game.

3.5 WR Screen – You may only attempt three (3) WR Screens from any formation in one game.


C) Defense

4.1 Manual Movement of Defenders – The following pre-snap procedures are NOT allowable:
•Moving multiple defensive players. If you choose to move a player, you MUST control that player.
•Manually moving defensive linemen from side to side, or off the line.

4.2 Shifting – You may shift LBs and DLs at any time, but do not continuously move them back and forth to trick the AI.

D) Special Teams

5.1 Manual Movement of Players – You may NOT move any player on the special teams unit before the snap.

5.2 Fake Punts/Kicks – One fake punt and one fake field goal will be allowed each game. You must abide by the 4th down rules in order to attempt a fake.

5.3 Onside Kicks – You may only attempt an onside kick in the 4th quarter if you are trailing by any amount.


IV Scheduling

Season games will be played in a round-robin style, and everyone will play every team in the league. The teams (amount of teams are subject to change based on amount of teams in the league) with the best record will play in the championship bracket. If there is a tie, those teams will play a tie-break, full regulation game to determine who will make the bracket. The winner of the championship bracket will be determined the winner of the league.

More scheduling information will be released when the league is formed.

Well for one, I feel that it's best for the league to have someone that does not play making the rules. This way I'm tailoring the rules/regulations to everyone's benefit, and not to MY benefit. This league will obviously be a process, and I am very open to hearing new ideas and adjustments towards making it better, and I think if I am not playing, it makes more sense to everyone else when I accept/reject an idea, because I'm from an unbiased standpoint.

Another reason would be that my PS3 has not been connected to the internet for a couple weeks. My splitter has given way and I haven't had a chance to replace it. Even still, playing on a splitter caused a lot of problems for my opponents, and that would also negatively effect the league, which I don't want.

I understand it's not the most ordinary way of going about it, but I feel it is the best way to go about it. And like I said earlier, I will do what I feel is necessary to ensure this league run's smoothly.

If you would like to talk about this through a PM or on IM, I'd be more than happy to do so. But for right now, I'm dealing with this league and not bantering about the past in this thread.

And for the record, I was 3-1 in the VSSML until it fell through. You can blame it on me for not lasting, I'll take the responsibility for that. But I think it's pretty childish to call me out the way you have.
