Swarley
A Special Kind of Cat
Since I'm going to try to keep up with some foreign GT and Touring Car racing series this year that don't get broadcasted here in the US, I figured I'd go ahead a post them in a thread as well in case some of our other race fans are interested. I'll post races from Australian V8 Supercar Series, German Touring Car Masters (DTM), Japanese Super GT and Blancpain GT Series (Sprint and Endurance), World Endurance Championship and some other things like one-off endurance races and some smaller touring car series'.
In case some of you would like to know a little more about the series before you dive in, I've posted a little bit about each one.
I'll post the schedules for each below so you know when broadcasts will hopefully get posted.
V8 Supercars
Touring car series in Australia that runs V8 4-doors like the Holden Commodore, Ford Falcon, Nissan Altima, Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG and Volvo S60. This series features a lot of aggressive driving and bumping and banging. The series sometimes branches out to other parts of the world, as last year they ran at CotA in Austin, TX. There are three race weekends for this series, Super Sprint (two 100km races and one 200km race), Super Street (two 125km races and one 250km race) and the Endurance Cup (additional driver required for each car, Sandown, Bathurst and Gold Coast).
Schedule:
DTM
Touring car series that is based in Germany and runs throughout Europe. They all run RWD 470 hp V8s with the Audi RS5, BMW M3 and Mercedes-Benz C-Coupe.
Schedule:
Super GT
Super GT is a GT series run in Japan. They have two categories, GT 500 and GT 300. Rules in this series are much looser than other GT championships. In the upper class, you'll see cars like the Honda NSX concept, Lexus RC-F and Nissan GT-R. In GT 300 you'll see the Japanese manufacturers with different cars as well as European GT3 cars. Each car has two drivers that switch on and off during the race.
Schedule:
Blancpain GT Series
This series runs in Europe and consists of the Blancpain Sprint Series and Blancpain Endurance Series. Cars feature two drivers for sprint races and three drivers for longer endurance races. There are three categories, Pro (all pro driver lineups), Pro-Am (mix of professionals and gentlemen drivers), and Gentlemen (gentlemen drivers with at least 1 year old cars). Cars in this series include the Aston Martin Vantage, Audi R8, BMW Z4, Ferrari 458 Italia, Lamborghini Gallardo, McLaren MP4-12C, Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG, Nissan GT-R and Porsche 911.
Schedule:
World Endurance Championship
This series features races of at least 6 hours long and also includes the famous 24 Hours of Le Mans. There are four car categories, LMP1, LMP2, GTE-Pro and GTE-Am. LMP1 is the top prototype category dominated by big factory-backed teams like Audi, Toyota and now Porsche while also having some privateer teams. LMP2 features more cost capped cars and is a privateer featured category. GTE-Pro and GTE-Am are GT cars that are based on the older GT2 category and look more like your street cars from Aston Martin, Corvette, Porsche, Ferrari, SRT Viper, BMW. GTE-Am must use a mix of pro and gentlemen drivers and use a car at least one year old.
