Yes. I was one of those making fun of guys who had DHB going at #7 on their mocks.
I apologize, I'm obviously dumber than even Al Davis because he dooped me into actually believing that he has some sort of sanity left.

Now, I wanted Crabtree or even Maclin but I'm not going to cry about DHB. He has the size, strength, and speed to be a great WR in the NFL. You can teach a guy how to run routes and to read defenses, you can't teach a guy to be 6'2" 210, 4.3.

We'll see if the Raiders can develop him into a dominant WR, he has the tools to get there.

I just don't see how you can pass a guy like Crabtree with that pick. How do you pass up that guy after all the records and trophies he won?? Because of a 40 time? Just can't believe how anyone could do that.

What is sad is that I think the Raiders could have drafted an OL at #7 and possibly still have grabbed DHB in the 2nd. And if not DHB then certainly Percy Harvin who is basically the same type of WR.

Or traded down even.

He's listed as the 73rd best safety by Mel Kiper. Even if the kid plays well.. you could have waited til the 6th or 7th round.. maybe even free agency. Huge reach.

Might be a big reach, but checking a highlight vids (yeah, makes anybody look good) can see what would make some like the guy, if he gets moved down into the box weakside.

Dunno about asking him to actually cover someone though. Damn near all his highlights involve showing closing speed and blowing a guy up. Don't know his numbers, but he's a S drafted by the Raiders...so I'm sure he ran a sub 4.5/40 somewhere the past couple months.

He ran a 4.4 at the Ohio Pro Day. But Al Davis is NOT IN ANY WAY ENAMORED BY A PLAYERS SPEED.

Most people believe all the hype and bullshit that Heyward-Bey can't catch.

This is folk lore. Heyward-Bey has hands, as Mike Mayock has said numerous times. Heyward-Beys hands only looked bad in a few films and they were the QB's fault because of poor QB play. Maryland was a running team, in some games they ran more then 80% of the time.

IMO, sure it's a reach to take him over Crabtree. But don't think Heyward-Bey can't be dominant in this league.

Now lets compare him to Troy Williamson (cuz you guys are bound to bring this up). Troy Williamson has a knack for dropping passes. Heyward-bey? Nope.

You know what Heyward-Bey does bad? Route Running and Defensive Recognition. Due to Marylands in ability to utilize their receivers, Heyward-Beys stats haven't been huge. Put Heyward-Bey in Texas Techs offense and he breaks at least 1k every season he starts.

If thats the case, why is Crabtree considered great?

He's slow and just came off a injury. He played for pass happy Texas Tech, so he was practically guranteed 1000+ receiving yards just by stepping on the field.

Huh.. that's weird.. because actual scouts, you know.. the guys that actually objectively study these guys.. seem to not agree as much.

Weaknesses:
Is inconsistent catching the ball and does not have great natural hands...Questionable instincts and awareness...Still very raw as a route runner...Not much wiggle and won't make people miss...Doesn't break a lot of tackles...Average strength...Marginal blocker...Has little or no special teams experience...Wasn't real productive..Workout Warrior?

Negatives: Bit of a one trick pony at this time. Might be the draft's most dangerous vertical threat, but offers little else. Long-legged and struggles to generate consistent separation out of his cuts. Not as consistently effective on jump balls as he should be, considering his natural size advantage. Too often double-clutches the ball. Questionable toughness running across the middle. Lacks strength and consistent effort as a downfield blocker.

This is a significant reach considering both Michael Crabtree and Jeremy Maclin are on the board, though this is the type of player the Raiders often go for. He has outstanding top-end speed, running a 4.30 at the combine, and he's a threat to score every time he touches the ball. He also has good size at 6-foot-1, 210 pounds. Our concern with Heyward-Bey is his inconsistent hands. In addition, he needs to work on his route-running.
