Ranking the Elite - Week 15 Edition

Who gives a shit how a team did in the playoffs in previous years? Last I checked, that really didn't mean much in the current season.

I was gonna say this but it makes too much sense to use in a discussion which includes dave.

Remember when Drew Brees had never won a playoff game? Until he did?

Remember when Aaron Rodgers had never won a playoff game? Until he did?

Remember when Peyton Manning ...

Ok I think you guys get the point. 2011 results don't mean dick in terms of 2012.

I respect that you're a fan, PB, but until the Falcons get it done in the playoffs, nothing matters. The Giants scare more people in the playoffs right now than the Falcons. The Falcons have to prove they are a factor at 8 p.m., than 1 p.m.

Yeah, we all know this. But we aren't talking playoffs right meow.

It's been almost 8 years since a team won back to back SBs, and said team hasn't won one since. Ranking the elite of the season thus far is hyperbolic enough without assuming that a team is less dangerous in the playoffs just because they haven't been great in the playoffs in previous seasons.

Funny thing about these lists is that I wouldn't really have an issue with someone reversing the order of my top 5. Anybody can be beat. The nfl is too hard to predict this year.

I don't care what the records say -- the Broncos have yet to beat a good team this year. Everyone knows the Ravens are not a strong team anymore. That team could very easily be 6-8 instead of 9-5.

The Texans beat the Broncos, the Falcons beat the Broncos and the Patriots beat the Broncos. They are a good team and very well could make it out of the AFC, but no way should they be #1 right now. Falcons are #1 right now, GB is #2, SF is #3, Patriots #4, Broncos/Texans fighting for 5.

that loss to Atlanta was at the 2nd week of the season and only by 6 points while they were still learning what the master QB wanted to do.

The loss to the pats was only by 10 and not statisticaly that ugly either. That was all the first 5 weeks of the season. They are a much better team now

Really my ultimate deciding factor in the rankings is who I would want as my race horse in the playoffs right now, and I base my rankings off of that. Atlanta just acts like a beatable team, I don't know how else to explain it. Peyton gets the nod right now partly because of the winning streak, and partly because this team is impressive when you consider the fact that Manning is in his first year with these teammates. But I can't deny your statement that Denver doesn't have a ton of quality wins.

As long as the Giants pass rush continues to no-show, they don't scare anyone. Playoffs or no playoffs.
