The market is the ultimate judge of a players worth...Myers could certainly stink, or he could be very good (IMO, I think he falls short of any prospect as a "stud", but again JMO)...but it says SOMETHING that the Royals are A) looking to trade him and B) were told "no" to many deals involving him over the calendar year.
It seems lots of teams don't quite value Wil Myers highly. I mean, Brett Anderson, Jon Lester, Jeremy Hellickson were not available for Myers.
They weren't GIVING him away, either...they turned down a deal that would have sent RA Dickey to KC for him.
The Royals were determined to get a 1/2 SP as well as SP depth (look at all of the rumored SP they have been looking at)...in the trade market, it essentially came down to Myers or Butler as the trading chip to move...they weren't moving Escobar...the price for Hosmer was way off from what I've read...and are just "listening to offers" for the rest of their young players.
One of them were getting moved for a pitcher...I think they made the right decision in WHO to move and I think they got the best possible pitcher they could for him.
