[ALL] Remember Me (Capcom)

So, I guess Capcom is sending this out to die. I don't remember ever even hearing anything about this game and just happened to see a big poster for it in Gamestop yesterday. It releases this Tuesday (06/04), LOL. Hell, I don't see it anywhere on Capcom's own website?!?

It looks like Uncharted meets Tomb Raider meets Batman meets Syndicate. I'm guessing it will end up like Mind Jack or Inversion and be in the bargain bin sooner rather than later.

The title is not only pretty lame but I'm guessing it will end up being ironic as well as most people will forget this gaem even existed.

Maybe it will be a hidden gem?

The only site that I've seen with weekly/daily ads for this has been GamesRadar so there's that.

From what I've seen of this preview build video, you semi-stealth your way past things but the game hadn't been tweaked to the point where there was instant area-to-area traversal when you needed it.

I.E., you could bound from a ledge to a storm drain pipe to sneak past a security drone but the act of doing so isn't as simultaneous as say a Nathan Drake free climbing.

Also, as you level up in-game, you can unlock nodes so you can create your own fighting combinations later on instead of having to rely on the canned stuff they give you when you boot up the story.

Looks fun enough to rent at least if you dug Batman and/or dig sci-fi stories set in contemporary areas.

From what I gathered of IGN's 5.9 review of this game, there was a sense that the big sell of the title (alternating memories) was so few and far between, that it was an afterthought.

Also, the combat system disintegrated once you unlocked the best moves to use apparently... figures.

I don't get the complaint about the traversal system as any other time you see a jumping mechanic in an unproven game, you'll hear how some of the jumps were impossible to make or worse yet, the rate of which you miss jumps.

From what I've heard, it's a 6-10 hour game with collectibles and mild re-playability if you want to see what all the outcomes of you fucking around in the memory reconfiguration scenes are.

...I'm thinking... rental?

From reading a few reviews and seeing what some of the GAFers with review copies have to say, it sounds like it's about a 7. It seemed like IGN just wanted to push the score below 6 to be noticed (who puts a .9 on a score anways? give it a 5.5 or a 6 and be done with it). Nothing great, but not a terrible game either. I'm going to hold out for some more reliable reviewers and then see if Redbox gets it this week.

EDIT: Had I not just bought GRID 2 (and getting Post-Pandemic for TLOU next week), I probably would have just taken my chances with this game either way on release day.

I wasn't expecting life-altering reviews for the game but this smells of wait-and-see.

I'm personally disappointed that there weren't as many mind-alteration scenes if this IGN review is to be taken seriously; I won't shit on GAF due to some of their members getting advance copies and like Swarley, I'll wait for dudes like Sessler and the GB/GR gangs to get a crack at it for more varied opinions.

And that's the thing. Remember Me suffers when it pushes its design beyond the capabilities of its mechanics, when its gameplay ambitions exceed its capacity to meet them. Most games would falter under the weight of those mechanical complications, and Remember Me eyes trouble the most pointedly when it falls prey to overused video game conventions. But Remember Me's fiction and world-building make it more than just another running, jumping and climbing oriented beat-em-up - they make it a future worth exploring.

But I would imagine if you don't have the backlog I have it might be worth a purchase. Although I can almost guarantee it will be on sale for $40 in a week or two, which I guess would be now. Ha.

Finally finished this game, really enjoyed the 2nd half of the game a lot more than the first. Probably won't play again but I had some fun moments with it.
