But its not like he was inheriting Indiana's football program and having to build it up. Michigan was two years removed from contending for the national title, and RichRod immediately made the team a national joke.

Plus he was there for three years. 15-22 in three seasons ... including a 38 point loss to Mississippi State in his only bowl game.
That will get you fired at any perennial top 25 program, especially the one with the most wins all-time.

In his defense though he was trying to overhaul an entire system. Still though, the product he put on the field just wasn't getting it done.
I'm kind of in favor of hiring Brady Hoke because he's a guy whose name won't be as big as other guys. When your coach begins to overshadow the program itself, thats a problem. Dave Brandon stated that our first goal is to win the Big Ten and I really like that. This team is years from competing for national titles again and right now we just need to get back to being a top 3 team in the Big Ten.

Actually the year after they were contending for a national title (the year before RRod was there) they were already a national joke after getting 3 big time seniors to return to school (Hart, Henne, Long) and losing to App State... then getting destroyed by Oregon the next week. Its not as if things were on the up-and-up when he got there.

And after losing to Oregon, they won their next 8 games and ended the season by defeating #9 Florida (i.e. defending 2-time champs) in the Capital One Bowl.

And its not like the cupboard was bare, Mallet, Manningham, and Arrington all could have came back that next season if Richrod would have ran the system he used too. Instead we ended up With Tate/Denard throwing to Odoms/Stonum who while I like them are just glorified slot receivers.

No matter how true it is that they ended the season strong, it does not change the fact that they went from title contender to laughing stock so quickly. As a Michigan fan, I still hear about the App state loss to this day.... not the Florida win. You should take your own advice and stop being stupid. Michigan losing to App State was a joke, and one of the most memorable things in all of CFB that season.

Take it FWIW, but after the game, Miles told the players in the locker room that he was their coach for next season. Eight different players were quoted confirming this.
So unless he's lying, which doesn't seem like him, Michigan's next coach is Hoke. Also, like I said, Miles currently makes 3.8 million and that's bound to get bumped to 4 this year (he has a weird deal that extends him a year plus adds money after any 9-win season). Rodriguez was only making 2.5 from what I understand, so unless Michigan is ready open up the purse strings a little bit Miles isn't even in their stratosphere.
Though if he is to believed, he doesn't want the job anyway. Before dying, Bo Schembechler told him to stay at LSU a long time make that his Michigan, or Bowden's FSU, or Paterno's Penn State, etc. LSU has never had that one coach who had a lengthy tenure and became an institution, and I think Miles wants to do that. Four 11-win seasons in his first 6 years means he can stay as long as he wants.
I think Hoke will be do a good job though.

That wasn't my point. My point was that RichRod inherited a really good program. They were at the very least good enough to defeat Florida in their bowl game, and they had some talented players returning. The App State loss was memorable because it was such an unexpected upset. If one of RichRod's Michigan teams lost to Appalachian State, it would be a small news item, but nothing more.

I can agree that he inherited a good program, but he really didnt inherit that many good players, especially on the offensive side of the ball. Long, Hart and Henne graduated. Both starting WRs left. Mallett and Boren transferred. The next best QB on the roster (Cone) decided to play baseball, and he came in really late in the recruiting period. Theres no question that the Rodriguez experiment failed, but that first year he was boned.
Stupid hiring, bad firing imo. Back to the drawing board. Hopefully they can find a way to be a decent program in 3 years.

A lot of the reason why the cupboard was so bare was because Rodriguez drove off his best players. If he had played to his team's strengths instead of forcing his system (think square peg, round hole), he would definitely have had at least an 8 win season every year.
Instead, he forced his system and not surprising in the least, he lost a lot of games, a record amount for Michigan in a 3 year span.

Oh yeah, theres no question that he was forcing the team to play his way rather than using his talent. I think it was a stupid hire because no one was going to be patient enough for it to work. The offense went from 106th in the nation to 8th. Yes, the defense has gotten worse but some things he couldnt help. (Warren leaving to NOT get drafted, Dorsey not getting in, Woolfolk getting hurt) Having Warren and Woolfolk instantly makes the defense much better, even if the scheme he insists on running is bullshit.
