Rex Ryan trying to avoid Tebow controversy

New York Jets coach Rex Ryan says backup quarterback Tim Tebow will take snaps only with the second-team offense during the team's three-day minicamp.

Mark Sanchez, whom the team has repeatedly insisted is the Jets' undisputed starter, will run the first-string offense throughout the practices. Ryan, who spoke before the Jets' first minicamp session Tuesday, eliminated any early suspense or speculation about whether Tebow could make a potential run at Sanchez's starting job.

Tebow, acquired from Denver in March, is expected to serve in a variety of roles for the Jets this season, including running the team's wildcat-style offense and serving as a punt protector on special teams.

Ryan adds that wide receiver Santonio Holmes could be limited after straining a hamstring during organized team activities last week.

Not going to take very long for Jets fans to get on the Tebow bandwagon.

When this team's offense looks anemic again this year, Sanchez will have way too much pressure on him from fans and media (and arguably coaches). He would have already had it last year, but now that Tebow is behind him, he'll flop.

Here's a tip for avoiding controversy, maybe don't acquire the guy if you already have a shaky starting QB?

The entire offseason I"ve seen/heard more of Tebow than Sanchez and that is the problem with having him on your roster. After awhile the constant Tebow Talk is going to wear on this team.

It still baffles me why the Jets bothered with Tebow in the first place. They lost confidence in Sanchez, fine. How about getting a backup who can run a traditional NFL offense? You need a different offensive game plan with Tebow, and when has the two-QB system ever worked? IMO, Sanchez' struggles had more to do with a shaky o-line, lack of a stud RB and Schotty's playcalling. And btw, it wasn't Sanchez who let Tebow drive 90-plus yards in Denver. Or give up that big play to Victor Cruz. Jets mediocre finish was a total team effort.
