Below are Ten Roles Stars Regret Turning Down. Can you imagine how the movie would have been, how the sequels would be and how their careers would have turned. What Mel was know for "I'll be back" Would Morpheus been played by Lawerence Fishburn or some whitey? Pachino, just dont see it.

1. Will Smith turned down the lead role in The Matrix (1999), which went to Keanu Reeves.

2. Gwyneth Paltrow turned down the role Rachel in The Ring (2002), which went to Naomi Watts.

3. Sean Connery turned down the 007 role in Live and Let Die (1973), which went to Roger Moore. Connery also turned down the role of Gandalf in the Lord of the Rings trilogy, which went to Ian McKellen, and the role of Morpheus in The Matrix films, which went to Laurence Fishburne.


4. Mel Gibson turned down the lead role in The Terminator (1984), which went to Arnold Schwarzenegger. He also turned down two Batman movie roles.

5. Bill Murray turned down the role of Donald "Boon" Schoenstein in Animal House (1978).

6. Al Pacino turned down the role of Han Solo in Star Wars (1977), which went to Harrison Ford.

7. Marilyn Monroe turned down a role in Goodbye Charlie (1964), which went to Debbie Reynolds.

8. Rock Hudson wanted the lead role in Ben Hur (1959), but negotiations fell through and the role was taken by Charlton Heston.

Leonardo DiCaprio turned down the role if Hans Landa in IB which eventually went to Christoph Waltz. I have no doubt in my mind since Leo speaks German perfectly, he'd would have been nearly as good. But all is good again since hes the villain in QTs next film.

Sean Connery was idiot, should stayed on as Bond and would have done a good Gandalf and possibly a good Morpheus as well.

Lindsey Lohan passed on the role that went to Heather Graham in the first Hangover film.

Julia Roberts passed on "The Blind Side" role that went to Sandra Bullock.

Molly Ringwald turned down lead roles in Pretty Woman (Roberts) and Ghost (Demi Moore).

Alec Baldwin turned down Richard Kimball in The Fugitive which was performed (amazingly) by Harrison Ford.

Michael Madsen had to turn down the Vincent Vega role in Pul Fiction due to scheduling issues. John Travolta got it instead.

Madonna was close to getting the role of Ginger McKenna in Casino, but it went to Sharon Stone instead.

Drew Barrymoore turned down the role that ended up going to Elizabeth Berkley in Showgirls. :smug:

Cary Grant turned down the role of James Bond because he didn't want to be tied to a film series and it went to Sean Connery.


Others include: Keanu Reeves turned down what ended up being Charlie Sheen's role in Platoon.

Sarah Michelle Gellar could not be Cher in Clueless due to scheduling conflicts.

That is as true a story as it is laughable. He didn't think the movie would be successful...they offered him the role of Gandalf and offered him what would have been the highest deal of anyone in the film, along with a big cut of the gross.

Doesn't fail as hard as Warren Beatty though:

Warren Beatty - Turned down the role of Jack Horner in “Boogie Nights.” The part was then offered to a smarmy looking Burt Reynolds. Warren also turned down James Caan’s role in “Misery”, the part of Gordon Gekko in “Wall Street” and Robert Redford’s role in “The Sting.” Granted, Warren’s had some decent roles and he’s a good actor. But we’re thinking he’s not a very good judge of a good script. He accepts “Dick Tracy” and turns down “The Sting?” Does anyone else see something wrong with this picture?

Brad Pitt in my opinion would have been awful. He can't pull off a non american accent and he just comes off as a pussy when he pretends to be an angry brute (Troy)

Leo as Capt America would have been outstanding.
