Sharks trade Heatley to Wild for Havlat

To think Ottawa had both of these fools once upon a time. I think SJ got the better player at a lower cap hit too. I actually like Havlat and with "The fucking all-star" gone I might even cheer for the Sharks.
 
The only time Heatley over-acheived in his NHL career was the year he avoided a lengthy prison term for killing his teammate.
 
5 goals in over 30 playoff games with San Jose? Once the trade went down a couple of Flyers fans were on the radio asking why we didn't go after him (obviously just looked at his regular season stats). Well since Minnesota just plays regular season games they might actually love Heatley.
 
I was just telling my dad that Heatley will be gone by next season so the Sharks can resign Burns. Looks like I was wrong. :smug:

Awesome trade for the Sharks. Havlat only had 3 less goals and 2 less points than Heatley last season. Sharks gained 2.5mil in cap space and got a player with more speed and better puck control.

Not only that, but Heatley is definitely on the decline. Also gives the Sharks enough cap room to sure up their 3rd line. Doug Wilson is not done yet. Miettenin and Chimera are the names being tossed around here.
 
Theres a reason Heatley keeps getting moved.. dude aint got no heart. I dont think Havlat got much more heart, but hes cheaper and will probably give much more in the playoffs.

We assumed that no one would be dumb enough to give us anything of value for Heatley and his massive deal. Like Tailback said, Havlat isn't that much worse and the cap savings should help us extend Burns and Couture.

Heatley is slow, has terrible balance, and was the 4th or 5th best sniper on the Sharks last season. He is getting worse each year and he was the highest paid player on the team.

Havlat is a proven playoff player, has proven to be durable the last 3 seasons, can create his own space and has elite speed. He is exactly what the Sharks need.

So yeah, very happy.

Havlat has been beyond awful the last couple years. His lack of defensive play and laziness should be perfect for the rest of the sharks. You guys think a guy like heatley who's been hurt literally all year "had no heart" wait till you see havlat play.

This move was purely cap related. One of the things that hurt Heatley was the fact that he came in and everyone expected him to be a savior. When the Sharks didn't do much better when he came on board (or deeper into the playoffs) he struggled, both mentally and with his play.

Both players needed a fresh start, but lets not get ahead of ourselves and think Havlat is as good as Heatley. San Jose needed to clear cap space, nothing more, and from that perspective, its a good deal for them and works. I think this trade will work out for the Wild as well- pairing Heatley with Koivu is a shrewd move and should energize the fanbase in Minnesota.
 
So then when the Sharks get knocked out again next year, who is the next scapegoat? I'm putting LA ahead of San Jose right now for next season. Adding Richards and Gagne to a fairly solid line up, and giving up Simmonds, then just seem to be going the better direction.
 
Heatley has statistically been worse in the playoffs than Havlat. They both are around .8PPG for the playoffs but Havlat's got more goals. I'd probably chalk up many of Heatley's assists to playing on top lines getting secondary assists (as he did so well this past playoff). He's supposed to be the better player, but certainly hasn't been.

He comes cheaper and can be moved again as he has no NMC/NTC whatsoever, putting the Sharks in control of the asset.

Heatley isn't being used as a scapegoat you donk. He didn't fit that team and wasn't worth the money. It's not rocket science, the guy was paid 7.5M to play on a checking line because he's not doiing enough to play in the top 6 on this team.

They added Brent Burns but are going the wrong way? lol. Stick to the concussion watch cause this makes no sense.

By reading all the other shark fans comments they all made it sound like they think it's heatley that was problem which I still constantly laugh at since its been painfully obvious what the issues have been.

I will say its been a while where I've seen it that both teams are happy they traded away a certain player.

Minnesota is hopping right now which is nice to see.
