Should the Buffalo Bills take a chance on Cam Newton?

Just curious.
Quite frankly, this franchise needs an identity.
IMO, Tim Tebow might have been a better choice over C.J. Spiller, but that decision was made and over.
And for those who say it - I agree, the Bills have bigger needs than QB.
But Newton could be a game changer for the franchise, the way Jim Kelly was.
He can make up for a lousy O-Line with his mobility and get the fanbase excited.

Yes they should. Not only are they getting new Uni's next year but they need a new franchise signal caller. The Bills have no one on their team who honestly stands out as the face of their franchise and Scam Newton can surely be that face. I agree that 3 is too high but if they can trade down it would be a wise move. But it all depends on Cam Newton's combine and what not, this dude could be the next big thing in the NFL or the next big bust.

Sure they need an identity, but I don't think that's the identity they need.

It takes a special kind of QB to throw accurately in Ralph Wilson Stadium, and there's no guarantee he could do it. He's from Georgia, has played his entire career in the south and has never played a single game above the Mason-Dixon line in his life. That's before even factoring in his HUGE makeup concerns. It'd be a reach of epic proportions and a disaster waiting to happen.

Go for it. What's the worst that can happen? It doesn't work out? Well then, you're right back where you started.

I think at three they need to limit their risk as much as possible. They have a lot of needs on defense. Not that Fitzpatrick is a great or even a good option, but he has shown this year that he can at the very least do a respectable job running the offense while needs are addressed in other areas.

Next year's QB class is going to shit all over this one. That's why I'm hoping we just take a veteran stop-gap and maybe one in the later rounds, instead of reaching with the #8 overall.

If a team feels like he is a transcendent talent and is someone they have confidence in coaching, then sure. Never be afraid to gamble on greatness, just make sure that you have a plan in place in the event it doesn't work out - which is easier said than done.

I didnt know that about Russell. I agree with North 120% on throwing vs no D no pads, not even looking through a facemask. thats why I feel like the combine is bullshit

I believe in Cam and think he will be a pretty good NFL QB, but I think he is going to need 2-3 years to develop, preferably behind a veteran QB and coaching staff/scheme with some stability.

Buffalo is not that place, and I don't think there is any way they take him at #3 and I don't think it'd be a terrible pick if they pick him but as KG said, it is hard for a QB to succeed in Buffalo, especially right away.

Fitzpatrick has proven to be serviceable. They aren't going to win anything with him but he bides them the time to build up the rest of the team around him and then replace him when ready to take the next step. There are too many other needs right now.

Bills badly need a good draft. Seems like a good while since they've had one. The first round has been brutal to them the last few years. Spiller, Maybin, Wood, McKelvin, Lynch, Whitner, McCargo, Parrish... Some of those guys are alright but for first round picks where you generally have a high pick you have to come away with more than some alright guys, a couple busts, and a guy no longer on the team.

Spiller could still pan out but the pick made no sense to me at the time anyway.
