Everybody has a family, unless you're like, an orphan, or they all died in a freak Playstation Move accident. We here at IGN are sorry for your loss. But maybe this preview for Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time will cheer you up. He has a big family, and they're all super cool.

Sony already showed off two of Sly's ancestor inspired costumes – the Arabian thief getup and samurai armor – at E3, but this time developer Sanzaru introduced two of Sly's famous relatives. The first, Rioichi Cooper, a deadly ninja warrior who also invented sushi. And yes, a ninja raccoon is just as cool looking as it sounds. Check him out:

Sly fans will remember Rioichi as the ancestor who taught Sly the spire jumping technique, one of the first moves he ever learns. But the ninja has more tricks up his sleeve. As you play him (yeah you get to play as Sly's family this time), you'll learn new moves like a long jump that allows you to leap between spires and cover normally impassable distances.

While Rioichi sneaks through his restaurant to retrieve his sushi knives, Sly is busy trying to save his other famous relative, Sir Galleth Cooper. The famed medieval thief has been captured, and forced into a life of daredevil acrobatics. Galleth has also been forced into a humiliating getup, making him decidedly less badass than his ninja relative.

Sly uses Galleth's sweet bow and arrow to create ropelines across the deadly fire-filled circus. Whether or not the bow can be used to attack bad guys remains to be seen (please be yes!). Aside from the new bow mechanic, much of the circus level plays like a very traditional Sly Cooper platforming level, though the verticality of the circus adds more scale than last generation's offerings.

Every time Sanzaru shows off Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time the game looks completely different. The variety of gameplay and the unique feel fit with the Sly series' history of switching up the gameplay for each new iteration, which still keeping that core Sly Cooper experience. Thieves in Time doesn't come out until fall, but feel free to start getting psyched for it, because it's fun.

It’s been too long since I’ve posted to PlayStation.Blog…but soon you’ll see why! We recently joined Spike’s Geoff Keighley on the latest episode of GTTV tonight to show off some cool new Carmelita gameplay in addition to a very special announcement: Sly Cooper is coming to PS Vita this fall!

First off, a look at new gameplay. As every Sly fan knows, Sly Cooper and Carmelita Fox have a long and torrid history — a history that’s destined to continue in Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time. The game picks up where Sly 3 left off, and Sly is feigning amnesia so he can be with the love of his life, Carmelita. But when he rejoins the Cooper Gang on their time-traveling escapade to restore his family’s legacy, you can be sure Carmelita will quickly become embroiled in their wild adventure.

Carmelita is radiant on the PS3, and the powerful graphics hardware allowed us to make her much more detailed and expressive than in the past titles on PS2. She is, of course, a fully playable character in Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time and so we also spent a lot of time evolving her gameplay. We have gone with a more precise over-the-shoulder aiming technique that allows players to lock on the targets quickly and easily. You can see how this can be put to good use in the multi-layered boss battle.

Now for more big news! Ever since we revealed the game, fans have been asking me about PS Vita, arguing that Sly would be a great game to take on the go. I completely agree…and I can now confirm that Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time will be shipping this fall on BOTH the PS3 and the PS Vita, on the same day.

The portable version will contain all the same awesome Sly Cooper action you will find on the PS3 along with cool Vita-specific features that incorporate the front and rear touchscreens and motion controls. The game will also feature cross-save capability, so you’ll be able to save the game from either machine and then pick up right where you left off — whether you’re at home or on the go.

So there you go! We are thrilled to finally show Carmelita in action — she’s a big fan favorite and I know everyone will love how she looks and plays in the latest installment of the series — and to be announcing the PS Vita version of the game. It’s been a crazy ride over the last few months, but when we see the results we know it was worth it. So stay tuned for more PS Vita details including date and price coming very soon.

Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time Delayed to 2013

Sony has announced that Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time will now be released in early 2013. Despite previously being slated for 2012, Sony broke the news that Thieves in Time will now be coming next year in the game’s newest gameplay trailer, seen below.

A reason for the delay hasn’t been revealed, and it’s currently unknown if this will affect the release of the Thieves in Time demo, which was scheduled to be included with the Ratchet & Clank Collection later this month. We’ve reached out to Sony to clarify and will update with any comment we receive.

Earlier today, Sony also revealed that buying Sly Cooper (and other games) on PS3 nets you the Vita version for free via its new Cross Buy promotion.

As mentioned before, you're getting the console version PLUS a copy for the Vita all in one neat little package.

IGN gave it an 8

The jist of the reviews posted (more to come from other competing sites as they are made available) is that while this is definitely an addition to the Sly canon...

-The minigames packed in amount to an astounding amount of filler.

-The LOADING TIMES are a little longer than expected for a newer-gen console that has enough power to handle whatever this game dishes out but isn't taken advantage of.

-The boss fights suck (when didn't they in the Sly Cooper games?)

-The writing stinks (when didn't it in parts of the games?)

Still, you can't beat the price and if you need to buy title to share with the whole family right now (as opposed to the new Dead Space 3, which shouldn't be seen outside close friends and gore hounds to be realistic), this is an early new title to nab.

And again, it's $40 for a game you can take on the go with you on your Vita after you leave to go to work.

Considering the shit that is on that handheld right now, you owe it to yourself to get at least one decent game this early in the year.

As with any review, the only opinion you gotta worry about is yours and your wallet's.

If you're going to buy a game like this, most likely you're part of the target audience that has played the older titles from the PS2 days (or the collection that's still out now) or are looking to share the game with friends/family/significant others.

I dunno if anyone would go in blind buy because, like anything that isn't a shooter game right now, you aren't seeing TV or Web ads for it.

Lack of advertising is probably going to kill this game versus word of mouth and bad reviews to be honest.

But again, buy it if you know you're going to play it...

But yet his site gave Dead Space 3 a "perfect" score when every other site has been giving it around a 7/10. An opinion is an opinion.

My buddy initially said he thought it was ok after the first level. He said it gets much better in level 2 and highly recommends it for $40, especially if you have a Vita.

Assuming you're a fan of the franchise? He is.

Did you play the demo that came out last week? I think it's of the first level, which according to him is the weakest level so far in the game. So if you like that you'll most likely get your monies worth.

So, apparently people were having a ton of issues redeeming their free Vita copy yesterday. Apparently the game doesn't come with a code but you have to install something from the disc and it locks to your PSN account. But when people went to download the game on their Vita's they were getting error messages saying the game had already been redeemed.

Funny I didn't see any mention of this from Handle who felt the need to bust my balls for not buying the game day one. He buys is day one but plays The Show all day.

The issue should be resolved now though.
