Depends what you mean by "poppy". If you mean a style of music that involves catchy, upbeat, feel good songs then I definitely like pop. 'Walk Like an Egyptian' by the Bangles and 'Echo Beach' by Martha and the Muffins are my two standard Karaoke songs; the B-52's first album has spent the last week or so on my car stereo and the last gig I attended was
this one.
Also, I'm sure you remember that my obsession with Kate Bush is virtually autistic.
On the other hand if you mean 'stuff in the charts recently' then no, I don't listen to it, why would I? It represents a tiny proportion of the music that's being made today, its so controlled my marketers and image consultants that it barely counts as a creative process any more and, as a result, it has become so stagnant that the charts today sound exactly the same as they did ten years ago.
As for being 'stubborn or ignorant', would you consider yourself either for not knowing anything about the latest releases on Kranky Records or for not having the new Daniel Johnston LP on pre-order?
