So what we have here, is a guy who at every level, does not allow hits, strikes out a ton of batters, and never allows runs. The consensus is clear. If he develops his slider to a mediocre level, you are looking at a pretty decent starter. At worst, he'd likely make a very good RP, and he could probably do that right now.

So I don't get why you guys pick on Rudi. This dude is a pretty good looking young pitcher who just gets guys out at every level, and who everybody agrees is a legit top level prospect if he improves his slider.

Dominating A ball as a 23 year old isn't that impressive, it's expected of you.

It's weird how all the major baseball prospect publications say that Teheran is a 2-3 starter right now, and a 1 if he improves his breaking ball; while Cingrani is a reliever unless he gets his shit together.

The majority of these bums that everybody touts around here won't pan out, that's how it goes, I just don't understand why Rudi takes such a beating over a player that does nothing but pitch well and grades out as a good RP at worst. What's so bad about the guy?

Teheran dominated AAA his first time around, at age 20. When Cingrani was 20 he was "so bad as a Rice junior, he had to ask Rice coaches if they still wanted him back for his senior season."

But we can still continue to compare these two incomparable prospects based on Pete's predictable deflection attempt if you guys want. Cingrani is more like a Sean Gilmartin type, low ceiling lefty with polish.

Oh but wait, Gilmartin actually has a 3rd (and 4th) pitch and thus is not slotted for future LOOGY duty.

I don't get wrapped up in this stuff, i've seen hundreds of these bums flame out over the years, these scouts are no better than shitty NFL scouts when it comes to this stuff in my opinion. And these days, they make their money off HYPE when you guys run out and buy the books to read about these players. So they talk up the top guys and give them expectations that most will never meet.

He's also been old for his level at each stop and scouts seem to project him as Travis Wood 2.0.

It's weird that you posted the most positive Cingrani scouting report out there, which just so happens to be from a website not exactly thought of for their prospect stuff. :troll:

"he gets worse every time he moves up" is ignorant to the fact that he dominated AAA at age 20. Obviously he was bad last season, both in the majors and over his final 10 or so AAA starts and needs to improve his breaking ball to unlock his "ace" potential.

Meanwhile, as gob alluded to, even with an improved breaking ball Cingrani projects as a back-end starter. Using raw minor league stats without contextualizing the age and level is silly. Reds fans have been scouting the statline of Cingrani for a while now, since at least last summer, and using that to hype him as something he's not.

C'mon bruh you were hyping Cingrani all last summer, you know the cb archives don't go back that far. As for Corcino, I'd say insisting on calling him "Baby Cueto" or w/e is a pretty strong implication of what you expect from him.

Baseball Prospectus on Ryan Howard:

Howard had better make some adjustments if he wants to have any chance of living up to the rest of hiss massive contract. Even his 2010-11 performance wouldn't be worth anywhere near the $20 million he'll make this year, let alone the $25 million he is slated to collect annually, 2014-16. At least Phillies fans are reasonable and measured in their response to players.

Did you read the reports? He threw very few fastballs and was throwing all kinds of breaking stuff that he's never used before. He threw two pitches that were under 80 MPH that people said looked like slurves. He topped out at 94 and bottomed out at 76 Jamie Moyer junk. Nobody made any hard contact and he induced a bunch of weak grounders and shit. Something like 18 out of 22 for strikes.

Maybe the Reds & Brian Price were smart all along in only letting him throw fastballs & sliders in real games all of this time. He has a bunch of other pitches that he can command that nobody has ever seen.

"This is a Spring Training game. I was working in those kinds of pitches that I don't control or use too much," Chapman said. "The breaking pitches and slow pitches are what I want to work on right now."
