Stallworth suspended indefinitely by NFL

he made a choice to drive a car drunk. he made that choice sober when he drove to get hammered. I am sorry, but that is murder. I know he didn't kill the person on purpose, but he made the choice to get behind the wheel. If you shot your gun at random spots on new years day and one of them hit a killed someone you would get way more than 30 days.

so what if he never steps on the field again he should have enough money to live off for the rest of his life even after the lawsuit that will come his way. This guys family lost someone because he was dumbass.

I'm certainly not trying to justify what Stallworth has done, but no one has mentioned that after the accident, he didn't take off. He stopped, called the Police, and tried to help the person. He didn't call his cousin to come down and say he was driving. He has taken responsibility for this right from the beginning, no excuses. And I'm sure he will take this suspension along with it.

There are certainly guys with bigger character issues than Stallworth - and as you pointed out, he was accountable - but that doesn't change what ultimately happened. Someone lost their life.

It was raining/dark and the woman was stopped on a curve on a highway off-ramp...... a sober person would have crashed into her.

Who is more likely to get into a fatal car collision? A drunk person or a sober person?

i mean come the fuck on?????? he deserves years in prison whether or not the victim's family agrees with it. playing in the nfl shouldnt even be considered at this point. i hate the legal system sometimes ... and people with outrageous opinions

I don't disagree with you at all Dave. IMO the stipulations of his sentence are very severe. I admit that its not a lot of jail time but would people rather him do 2 years in jail and thats it? No other stipulations? Between 2 years house arrest, 8 years probation, loss of his drivers license for life, and 1000 hours of community service, he will pay for this for the rest of his life, literally. I rather see him paying the fees for his ankle bracelet for 2 years than have taxpayers paying for his food and housing in jail, which would amount to a lot more money. The maximum sentence was 15 years, he would need to have been a habitual offender, multiple convictions for past DUI's, a lengthy criminal record for them to even consider giving him a lengthy jail sentence, but it would have never amounted to 15 years. If people want to be irate about it, they should be mad the state of Florida, which allowed this to happen. Here in Mass. they have Mandatory Minimum Sentencing, where if you are charged with a certain crime, there is a minimum sentencing guideline. I believe that DUI Vehicular Homicide carries a minimum of 1 year, no matter who you are. And again, 1 slip up and he will be in jail. Its up to him to honor the sentence he received, and considering his accountability from the second it happened, I believe it made a big difference in the way this was handled.

Im gunna come in here with no regard for what has been said before me to state the facts:

He should not have recieved any more than 30 days in jail, because all he did was drink and drive.
He is not responsible for this guys death. The man was breaking laws designed to protect him and he died, a good example of why we shouldnt jay walk in big cities...

Had this man got hit by donta while he was crossing the street legally, yea donta would be in the big house for about 15. Facts are is that Donta stallworth was driving along, yes drunk but nonetheless, and some 60 year old man came running into the street tryingto catch the bus, and he hit him, complete accident that could happen to anyone. Donta flashed his lights at him but the man ran into the street anyway, kind of dumbass...

Either way the court tacked on a fair,maybe a little to much (8 year probation?), punishment andhe will serve that.

As for roger Goodell, he has no right to punish him for his actions. If the browns wanted to fire him for his off the field conduct thats one thing, but goodell is eessentially blackballing him, which is BS.
Yes Stallworth did violate league policy, but what does the normal guy get for alcohol abuse in the NFL...
prolly a rehab reference, maybe a 30 day suspension... but noooooo

Goodell has to go be a bag about, seriously dude... let the law handle the law and you handle FOOTBALL.

im a browns fan and i dont want him on our team. He was a bust last year and might have been a great player this year....who knows.....but the negative BS this brings on cleveland is not something any teams needs. I want the browns in the spotlight for being a good team, not this shit.

that said, i am not against the punishment stallworth got and i do think the indefinite suspension is a bit harsh. If donte had not been drinking then no punishment would have come from this. Reyes jumped out in front of a car doing 50 mph. Nobody would have avoided hitting him regardless of impairment

Its the same thing as if a guy jumped into shallow water head first, and his parents are upset, but that doent change the fact the dude did something stupid...

all im saying is that stallworth should get what a normal DUI gets, because thats all he did, the other guy was breaking the law by jay walking, and regardless of how that guys family feels, thats technically the law, stallworth coulda got off with less than what he got, but abided by the families wishes and ended the case ASAP

Bing a relative of yours or that other guys, or not being a relative or yours, doesn't change Florida Law.

The guy was Jay walking, running out onto a very busy street to catch a bus. That has to be considered when evaluating the case. I'm sure both the defense and prosecution considered the circumstances when reaching a plea deal.

I'm guessing you were not your class valedictorian either.
