The DeSoto, Texas, police department will file the Class A misdemeanor family violence charge against Dallas Cowboys receiver Dez Bryant with the Dallas County district attorney's office Friday, DeSoto captain Ron Smith said.

Bryant turned himself in Monday after a warrant was issued for his arrest on allegations that he assaulted his mother, Angela Bryant, during an argument at her home.

According to the incident report, Angela Bryant accused her son of grabbing her by the shirt and hair, hitting her in the face with his cap, striking her repeatedly in the hands and wrists and pushing her in the chest.

Smith, DeSoto's public information officer, said the police department has concluded its investigation and has opted to move forward with the charges.

"We're done with our work," Smith said. "We'll file with the district attorney's office and they'll take it from there."

Bryant, 23, faces up to one year in jail and a fine of up to $4,000. He is also subject to a fine or suspension under the NFL's personal conduct policy. An NFL spokesman said the league will review the incident as appropriate.

Royce West, Bryant's attorney, did not immediately return a message requesting comment Friday.

DALLAS -- In a sign of solidarity, Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Dez Bryant was joined by his mother, Angela Bryant, at a brief news conference on Tuesday to stress that while there may have been an incident last week, no family violence occurred.

Neither Bryant nor his mother took questions regarding the Class A misdemeanor charge filed by DeSoto police. Instead, a statement was released and read aloud by their attorney, Texas state senator Royce Wst.

"Did a family disagreement occur? Yes," West said in the statement. "Did Dez Bryant commit family violence against his mother? No."

As West spoke, the Bryants shook their heads in agreement when he talked about the family needing to undergo counseling.

"They are here together today to show they do love and support each other," the statement said. "Just as much as they did before the incident a week ago. But like all families, the Bryants have disagreements."

Dez Bryant has yet to meet with league or team officials regarding the incident of last week. The NFL is looking into the matter, as are the Cowboys. Bryant, who finished second on the team in receiving yards (928) and touchdowns (nine), is subject to a fine or suspension by the league.

"I would love to make a statement, but I can't," Bryant said while leaving the news conference.

A Dallas County district attorney's spokeswoman said the case filed by DeSoto Police against Bryant includes an affidavit of non-prosecution from the complainant. The affidavit means the complaint doesn't want to proceed.

Yet, the district attorney's office is still reviewing the case and hasn't determined if it will press charges against Dez Bryant.

"They ask that there not be a rush to judgement concerning their family," West said in reading the statement. "They also ask for your continued prayers and support for their family as they work through this matter."

Police issued an arrest warrant for Bryant last week after a July 14 incident in which he allegedly hit his mother in the face with a baseball cap. The police affidavit said Bryant grabbed his mother by her T-shirt, causing her bra to tear.

According to the DeSoto Police Department, Bryant is charged with a Class A misdemeanor for assaulting a female family member and was released a few hours later without talking with police.

Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo offered his support for Bryant prior to the news conference.

"I think it's an example of me not thinking of anything other than knowing I'm here for my teammate," Romo said. "More than anything else, that was what it was about. Dez knows that I care about him. Dez knows that I care about his family. Dez knows that I'm here for him when he needs me. I know he's the same way. I think our football team is a close-knit team. That's the way this team has kind of been built in a lot of ways. It's exciting just to see that because it's not always been the case.

"I think Dez and everybody does things they wish they could have back in life and do things different sometimes. But that was a situation and he will learn from it and he'll do steps in the future to make sure that doesn't happen again. I know he feels bad and he's a kid who's growing and learning to become a man. He really is a good kid."

According to the incident report, Bryant became angry when his mother asked him to leave her home during an argument with his stepbrother.

On the 911 call, Angela Bryant said this was not the first time she had been assaulted by her son.

"I can't keep letting him do this," Angela Bryant said on the 911 call. "I can't keep letting him do me like this. I'm tired. I'm going to put an end to it today. I'm going to put an end to it today. I'm tired."

First season he broke his leg with 5 or so games to go in the season. Had 45 receptions, 650 yards, 6 TDs.

Last season he had 60+ receptions, 900 yards, 9 TDs.

Not earth shattering but certainly not bustworthy.

Compare Dez to Harvin, Cruz, Britt, Nicks, Bowe. Those WRs have had more success than Dez has had, but Dez was graded higher in talent when he came out of OSU. He's been good, but not special.

Pro Bowls = Success?

1 200 yard game = Success? Take away Britt's 200 yard game and that makes Britt's stats even less impressive.

And good thing we didn't take Dez #1 overall. We took him 24th.

Dez Bryant is an absolute freak and has the talent and potential to be a top 5 WR in this league.

He is not the number 1 target on that team - Witten is, and he is also competing with Miles Austin for balls.

If he get his shit together, stays healthy, and becomes the number 1 target on that team (he will eventually as Witten gets older), he will be one of the elite WRs in this league.

He is still raw and relying on physical ability. He will be scary good one day. It's really only a matter of time.

Not so much. Moss was a top 5 WR of all time. I think Dez can be one of the top WRs in the league, and maybe even the best if not for a guy named Calvin Johnson, but he's not going to touch Moss's stats.

I believe Havin went to the Pro Bowl as a kick returner.

As TailbackU mentioned Bryant has top 5 talent, but I don't think he has a top 5 brain, so I don't expect him to reach his potential, but he is far from a bust.

The guys clearly a head case and still leaves alot to be desired in the short passing game. Only time he excels is 15+ and near sidelines. Doesn't get as open as he should for a guy that athletically gifted.
Could very well be Garretts overly complex system. He also cant go too many games without something getting injured.

Bottom line hes the cliche top 5 talent with a 5 cent brain. His chances of success are mediocre. His chances of mediocrity are very high. Looking at the tea leaves we may be looking for another no.2 in the off season. I dont have any faith in the kid at this point.
Can he explode ? Sure but my moneys on a night club implosion instead.
