Colin Stevenson just said the deal for Johnson is basically done.................LOL. I'm not sure why the'y do that, but what does this mean for Howard, because it's apparent that they won't be able to have Williams, Johnson and Howard. Stevenson said they were done with Howard. LOL at him.

It's possible that they still could get Howard, but it's going to be tough. The Nets would have to do a Dwight Howard trade before they resign Williams though. They have D-Will's bird rights, so they are allowed to go over the cap to get him.

In addition to Horford, Atlanta can offer Devin Harris (expiring) or Teague, plus whatever other Nets castoffs they want, plus their own first round pick or the Nets' first-rounder. Other assets they have to deal are Zaza (pls no) and Jenkins.

I think it's a solid deal for Orlando, central Florida already adores Horford and he's not a punk bitch like Dwight has acted towards them for so many years. Likeable kid, local star, affordable deal ... Would be an easy sell for fans if enough other assets come back.

And as much as I love Horford (as any MMer will tell you, I've been known to go to bat for him a few times :shifty: :tiptoe, without hesitation I say do the move.
It's crazy, because no Hawks fan on the planet woke up this morning thinking the team should trade Al over Josh, but now that looks like the best course of action.

I could go for that. I just want Orlando to get the best deal possible for that cry baby. We can free up some cap space, have some solid pieces and go after some FA's

For myself, good thing is, if this deal goes through, it'll be nice to see the Hawks have a good team (better than the current one) and I would actually make the drive to go see them play sometimes.

Sources: Nets could still get Howard

There is still a chance that Orlando Magic star Dwight Howard could become a member of the Brooklyn Nets, according to league sources.

The Nets and the Orlando Magic are discussing a trade that would send Howard to the Nets for Brook Lopez, Kris Humphries, MarShon Brooks and the Nets' first-round picks in 2012, 2014, 2016 and 2018, sources said.

On Monday, the Nets reached terms with the Atlanta Hawks on a multiplayer trade that will land them All-Star guard Joe Johnson in exchange for several players with expiring contracts, according to sources briefed on the discussions.

In one off-season they can re-sign Williams to a max deal, re-sign Wallace for 10 million, trade for the 5th highest paid player in the NBA at $19 mill, and then STILL get the 7th highest paid player in the NBA at another 19 million?

I get how you have Bird Rights with some players, and are allowed to make trades over the cap as long as the salaries match, but holy fucking god is this thing broken.

its a soft salary cap, so there are all types of exceptions as well

Yeah, I get that it's a soft salary cap but I thought the only way they could go over was to match salaries on trades and through Bird Rights. I guess that makes sense if Deron waits. Still seems retarded, though.

You can resign your own guys to a pretty high level as long as you're okay with paying the luxury tax through the nose, especially with harsher penalties upcoming in the new CBA. It's really not "broken" just as long as you sacrifice depth or pay a ton of tax.

Without Howard, the Nets are a fringe playoff team in the 6-8 range and will never get out of the second round (at best) with a Williams/Wallace/Lopez/Johnson team. Does anybody honestly think that group is scaring Miami or a healthy Bulls? Or even the Celtics or Pacers (with Hibbert)? Joe Johnson is already 31 and declining, I would have spent my $80M elsewhere. Yuk.
