I don't know of too many NFL teams that have RB committee that consists of two recent #1 picks. I think the Panthers do, but last year they ran for like almost 3000 yards and 30 TDs. I don't foresee Brown/Addai equaling that output.
Dominic Rhodes was great because the Colts didn't have to waste a #1 pick on him. Thats kind of my point. Which, as usual, you still don't remotely understand.
You're beating a dead horse here. Obviously, Peyton Manning is the brains of this operation; he makes players that really never had a shot [Garcon] and makes them players that are capable of actually producing on any given Sunday.
However, Polian put together this squad, and as a team [Polian and Manning] our entire offense has been fantastic. You seem hellbent on mentioning that we wasted 2 First Rounders in the last few years on RB's, but we've got the number 1 passing attack in the league right now.
While I agree with you that Rhodes was always a fantastic addition to the team, he never really had that second level, something that Brown has shown he has. He's played great when he's had the chance, and 4 games into the year, how are you going to sit here and tell us that we've "wasted" 2 picks in 3, 4 years, however many it is, on RB's?
On top of the RBs helping to balance our run-game with our efficient pass-game, both of these RBs also bring different tools to the table.
Addai is fantastic as a blocker. He's not as good as James was out of the backfield, but he's manageable. Brown? He's fantastic out of the backfield, and exhibits many of the same skills James showed when he was here.
I saw mention of you talking about how many of these Colts players wouldn't work anywhere else. I wholeheartedly agree with that. However, is that due to Peyton? Or our offense as a whole? While Peyton heavily influenced the offensive schemes we use game-in and game-out, Polian is responsible for bringing players into the league that can jump into that system and that are willing and ready to learn it.
Polian understands potential draft picks and players in general on a whole different level than most exec's in this league today. While I understand that you're brooding over the fact that Peyton brings the wins, Polian, more often than not, is the one responsible for giving Peyton the tools to win.
For that part, he deserves more credit than he's ever gotten.
