The book was better...then again, it usually is, as books can impart so much more depth into a story.

That being said, my wife and I enjoyed the movie. I felt they did a really good job with their time constraints. And to see things come to life that you've visualized is always cool.

It sort of dragged on in the beginning and later on it just felt like anytime there was a problem an answer was handed right to the character, but it did have some redeeming moments.

I thought it was fine up until she reached the President's mansion. The killing of Prim made absolutely no sense at the time, then it made a little more sense...then it made no sense again.

There are characters who had time invested into their development, only to be dismissed (with no closure) by silly deus ex machina crap (Johanna with the water). Gale disappears with no end to his tale, Haymitch disappears after being the conscience the whole series.

Fuck, man. Between this and the ending of ME3, trilogies are really starting to fuck up lately.

I buy it. Been on the 'wagon since seeing Winter's Bone. I think she can be a star. She's pretty universal and unoffensive. Dudes like her, chicks like her, parents like her, kids like her, she's all good. She's cute but she's not at that goddess level of hot where she'd get backlash from other women.

Plus she's got some acting chops.

I did not read the book and I enjoyed it. My bottom bitch read the book, enjoyed that and was very much disappointed in the movie.

That seems to be the common factor among the people that didn't enjoy the movie. They need to try and understand that the film and book are two different things. The movie was 2 and a half hours long, they fit in as much as they could.

If I remember correctly, the president of the rebellion used Gales trap bombs against their own people to give them extra anger to fight and win the war. Prims death was supposed to be the motivation for Katniss to end this woman without much hesitation. I know we never got a definitive answer as to whether it was Snow or not that used those bombs, but I feel certain it wasn't him. I just didn't enjoy the entire process of getting to the mansion, what with the gay Peeta brainwash and sneaking around. Then at the end we get no closure on any of the characters except one sentence about them if we were lucky. That was my biggest concern about the finale.

I read the books and watched the movie last night. I highly enjoyed both.

Minus the shaking of the camera during fight scenes (which they had to do I guess since it was PG-13), there wasn't really anything I could complain about. I don't think they left anything important from the book out of the movie.

The only thing I wish they added in and explained were the dogs at the end. In the book they all had the eyes of the kids who were killed earlier in the games. I was kinda disappointed they didn't go into that, but like I said, didn't kill it for me.

One part that was badass in the film was when the bombs went off and all you hear is ringing then hear Cato snap that dudes neck.

Did not read the book. Saw the movie and it was good. You can tell it was rushed, and filled with some annoying plot-holes/contradictions that are explained better in the book.

 

Not a real spoiler, but I could have lived without the 1 hour build-up to the actual "games." It could have easily been explained in about half the time and the movie could have either been shorter/faster, which would have been nice, or they could have focused on the in-the-woods stuff more.

I'm sure that in the book that stuff was a lot more interesting. On the screen, it made no practical difference to the movie...other than to introduce chacters which I assume will appear in the sequel.

Overal solid, 8/10.

Jumped on the scene in a little nondescript film, but did an Oscar worthy job in Winter's Bone.

Got into a mainstream hit in a supporting role in X-Men: First Class.

Now into a BIG hit trilogy as the lead in The Hunger Games.

That is how to go from nobody to A-List in 2 years.
