I would actually say he's pretty similar to Alex Smith, too, athletically. Other than arm strength, there are similarities.

No one is going to be identical, but there are enough similarities.

And I dare you to find another clip of Locker running the football.

He is able to run the football, but I think we can both agree he's nowhere near 4.39.

I'm pretty sure Tebow ran a 4.6. I think Locker will be slightly faster than that, so no big difference in speed.

Either way, he will suck in the NFL. Just like Tebow.

I found a bunch of clips of him running but they don't have embed links and they aren't youtube vids. Anyway, I agree that he'll probably suck in the NFL, but don't really buy the Tebow comparison other than cosmetics.

Lots of runs on display in this highlight vid. Also note the mobility on back to back plays starting at :39 (against Idaho, granted). At the 2:07 mark he runs past LSU's fastest DE at the time, Rahim Alem, who posted a 4.75 at the combine.

Tebow was a great CFB player, but he rarely ran away from guys. It's funny that you say you've never seen Locker have many long runs, when Tebow only has three runs over 30 in his entire college career, all in his senior year. His long is 55, against FIU. Locker has nine rushes longer than 30 yards in his career, three over 45, and two over 50 (57 and 54). There's no way Locker is as good as Tebow, but he's definitely a lot faster.

Edited my post with some more numbers that prove he's faster.

And forget Idaho, you must have missed the part where he ran away from the same LSU defense that held Tebow to 38 rushing yards (2.2 ypc).

You can make the comparison if you want, but I'm gonna call BS when you downplay Locker's speed. Tebow was a banger, Locker is a sprinter.

I'm already spending more time on this then I'd like to but Locker is not that fast. Sprinter speed? I strongly disagree. He averaged around 3 yards a carry every single year except for his freshman year because he took D's by surprise.

Locker's rushing yards per carry:

07: 172 carries, 986 yards, 5.7 ypc.
08: 56 carries, 180 yards, 3.2 ypc.
09: 112 carries, 388 yards, 3.5 ypc.
10: 76 carries, 253 yards, 3.3 ypc.
Career avg: 3.9ypc

Tebow's rushing stats:

06: 89 carries, 469 yards, 5.3ypc.
07: 210 carries, 895 yards, 4.3 ypc.
08: 176 carries, 673 yards, 3.8 ypc.
09: 213 carries, 910 yards, 4.2.
Career avg: 4.4ypc

Locker only had a higher YPC in his freshman year. Tebow played against SEC defenses week in and week out, carried the ball more, and averaged more yards per carry.

If Locker was that much faster and a better athlete like you are saying, I'd think he'd be able to average more than a paltry 3.3 ypc over his last 3 years against the soft and slow defenses of the pac-10. Wouldn't you?

Either way, maybe Locker is 1/10th of a second faster than Tebow in the 40. I guess that isn't similar speed to you but it is to me. Other similarities include: size, strength, agility, and subpar throwing mechanics.

He played 4 games as a sophomore and has been in a Pro-Style offense since. His speed shows in the amount of long runs he has. 9 runs over 30-yards, three over 40. Tebow didn't have a run go longer than 26 yards til his senior year.

I really don't care about ypc when talking about QBs, especially when sacks are factored in to college rushing stats. You said Locker had only made a few long runs, when in reality he's busted huge gains (aka run away from LBs and safeties) at 3x the rate of Tebow. Triple the amount of 30-yarders, triple the amount of 40-yarders, double the amount of 50-yarders.

You can keep Tebow's YPC, Locker isn't being used as the feature back in a power rushing offense like Timmy was. As you have already said yourself, he's in an offense not suited to his running ability. He's faster than Tebow though, which shows in his big play ability the few times he does tuck it.

Former Cougars quarterback Jason Gesser doesn't get it. Why couldn't Huskies quarterback Jake Locker suck it up and play with a broken rib Saturday against Oregon?

"To be honest with you, I was surprised he didn't play in this last game," Gesser said on Dave Grosby's 710 ESPN show Tuesday afternoon. "I've had cracked ribs. I've had dislocated ribs. Basically all you have to do is shoot them up."

Gesser said he played with a similar injury for most of his junior and senior seasons at Washington State.

"You take the shots and you get out there and you play," Gesser said.
