It's almost like exclusive licensing is a bad thing.

It is, but NFL/Madden are the only ones that have it. MLB had a first party agreement with SCEA, but until 2K Sports decided not to renew the third party license, there was competition there.

A lot of factors do go into it, and the exclusive license is a big one, but there also aren't as many independent studios out there anymore. Big companies like EA, Activision and Rockstar have acquired many of them, and both Sony and Microsoft have done the same thing. The rest of the studios are smaller and are now focused on making games for mobile platforms, which have a higher profit percentage for them.

They only way it changes is if they make a completely perfect representation of the sport for the 1% of the buyers that want that.

Then they will royally piss off the other 99% that just want to score 90 points per game and run crazy with their favorite players.

The BIGGEST general complaint from last year? Graphics

The Biggest complaints in general over the last 2 years? Player editing and Fantasy drafts. Why? Because people want to be able to make players 7 feet tall and all 99 over on their team or they want to do a fantasy draft and have an all star squad.

Those items aren't representative to the realism crowd. The things we want would push away the masses that purchase the game.

Just stop, please. People don't want player editing so they can do stupid shit like make people 7 feet tall and 99 overall. They want player editing so that they can control what the players in their franchise look like. This is due to how lazy the player models have been for the past years. Jesus Christ. :smh:

LOL @ graphics being the biggest complaint. For YEARS it has been with how the game animates, how the entire gameplay is built around these canned animations that do not look like actual people running, throwing, tackling. Not only does bad animations effect the gameplay it kills the immersion.

The bottom line is that Madden is the only game in town and even the guys who want to score 90 a game or make 7 foot tall players would have still bought the product even if it were geared more toward realism.

EA makes the development choices every year to half ass this thing, not the consumer.

I'd also like to see how much of the consumer base was up in arms demanding Colin Kaepernick's (and only his) authentic tattoos to be included.

Since that's basically the only new feature I've seen this far.

Which is why there needs to be two products on the market, let EA do their thing and supply a product for people who don't know shit about football, while 2k (or whoever) delivers an authentic product. Then, everyone's happy.

But, I'm not sure if what you're implying is even accurate. If the majority of sports gamers didn't care for an authentic product then 2k basketball wouldn't have run EA into the ground. Different demographics maybe, but if you're not afraid of 2k taking market share with a realistic product, stealing a measly "1%" then why even buy the exclusive license? The number is pretty significant else it wouldn't have made business sense for EA to do it.
