Which I don't believe includes anything about "worse fielder than Adam Dunn".

Overrated =/= terrible

And nothing screams back-handed compliment or worse than Adam Dunn like: "he has made a marked improvement in his D over the last couple of years"

No, context wasn't taken into account, as my original statement was in response to someone trying to separate or distinguish what aspect of Jeter's game is overrated, as simply saying that Jeter is overrated doesn't tell enough of the story. My statement, then, distinguished which aspect of his game is overrated, but then went on to talk about how great of a hitter he is, which is what the thread is supposed to be about.

I like how people in this thread are still saying Jeter is overrated but they say. "He's an overrated defender, not hitter" then you have people saying "He's and overrated hitter not defender." So with those two statements being bantered back and fourth it has come to my scientific conclusion that Derek Jeter is not OVERRATED.

His fielding is overrated. As a hitter he's the most essential player in the Yankees lineup, and has been for 5 championship teams.

Jeter is overrated as an overall player, but properly rated as a hitter IMO.

I feel like Grady Sizemore is pretty overrated. Don't get me wrong, I dont have anything against the guy. Albeit he hits homeruns, but he doesn't put up the kind of numbers you expect to see in a lead off hitter.

Also Barry Zito is overrated IMO, its like he gets worse every year

if anything hes better than people give him credit for

last year players batter .250 against him, had a 4.0 ERA, had a 1.35 whip

and yet people dog on him all the time (and deservedly so) for his contract

but as bad as people make him out to be, id consider him a little underrated

I'm still wondering how people consider Cole freaking Hamels, the guy that EVERYONE killed last year for just about EVERYTHING, is overrated. Who is overrating Hamels? I'm not asking this as a Phillies fan (because he drove me NUTS last season) I'm just curious because I have yet to hear basically ANYTHING positive about him other than "We think he will bounce back."

Where is this hype that would warrant calling him overrated?

even the media like espn is hyping him, i nearly barfed when i saw a baseball tonight interview with him where they called him an ace

Hitter: Brandon Inge

Guy finally has a good, about two months for once in his career, and suddenly makes an ASG. Yeah that was a pretty impressive .230/.314/.406 "career year". I'm not sure if he's overrated or not, but the vocal majority of Tigers fans seem to love the guy.

Honorable Mention: B.J. Upton

1 good season/playoff run, a career does not make. He's still young and may regain the promise he showed, but as of now he's not the superstar he's been expected to be, and it seems some people still think he is. We'll see how much of it was the shoulder injury.

Pitcher: Carlos Zambrano

Never been a big fan of this guy. I mean, he's a quality pitcher and all, but far from an ace as he's made out to be Cubs fans, especially in the last 3 seasons.

I don't think anyone besides girls who think they're Tigers fans think Brandon Inge is a good hitter.

You're on freaking drugs if you think that those same analrapists weren't saying "What's wrong with Cole Hamels?!?" last post season. There is no way, in any concept of the basic idea of being "overrated" that Cole Hamels could be that. If he is, then so is any young pitcher that had one good year (or in Hamels case, a great post season). I'd bet that MOST "analysts" (of whom are not worth listening to to begin with) were calling Hamels a "potential" ace, which he is. I find it extremely hard to believe that people would actually believe that a guy like Cole Hamels could be overrated after the year AND the shit that he went through in the media this past season.

I'm saying that I've heard people say that Hamels CAN be an ace if he gets back to his 2008 post season form. I honestly have not heard ANYONE call him a guaranteed ace, particularly here in Philly.

So I don't see how that is overrated, because it's true.
