Tigers to trade Prince Fielder to Texas in exchange for Ian Kinsler

I guess we see two different sides here, since I'm coming from the Red Sox side of dumping Beckett, AGon, and Crawford to the Doyers. In my mind it's nice to have a little more salary room to re-sign Scherzer and not have to worry about a long term, crazy contract.

Fielder is going to be in his age 30 season next year. It's not fair to compare the two deals. Rangers get the much better player. Tigers get 4 shitty years of Kinsler while paying 30 million to the Rangers. Kinsler is going to be 32 so you get his 32-36 seasons. That seems painful to think about.

Saving 76 million sounds nice, but Fielder is on contract for 3 more seasons than Kinsler. I don't look at a team that was in the WS then ALCS within the last two seasons as one that needs to be thinking about trading one of it's best players to save some cash in 4 years.

I guess if you look at it in terms of trading Fielder to be able to extend Scherzer, then it makes a little bit more sense. I don't know, though. Just seems like the Tigers are a better team with Fielder than without him.

Agreed, but are they a better team with Fielder, but without Scherzer & Miggy? Because supposedly this frees up the money to retain both.

If i'm a Tigers fan i'm a little annoyed because I know the Ilitch family has the money to retain ALL of these guys (I firmly believe all of these owners are full of shit, cry poor, and in most cases could easily spend double), but I get it and it makes sense since owners are cheap. The Ilich family is worth multiple billions and are among the wealthiest people in baseball. I met these loony toons at a Little Caesars convention, and they are eccentric and out of touch with society. The total stereotype of wealthy people who don't know how to behave around the plebs of society.

Am I the only one that see's Kinsler on the decline? His defense is iffy and he's really not commanding some kind of outrageous bat to make up the difference.

Nope, you're right on the money. I think when it's all said and done we look at Texas as the winners here. They opened up a much needer roster spot for one of baseball's best and rid themselves of an expensive 30 year old who generates a lot of his value defensively (hint: go look at who well Chase Utley and Robbie Alomar's 30s went).

Also Kinsler is a career .242/.312/.399 away from the Ballpark in Arlington.
