Titans' Johnson calls Rookie of Year voting 'bogus'

Tennessee Titans running back Chris Johnson said Wednesday that if players voted for Offensive Rookie of the Year, he believes that he, not Atlanta Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan, would have won the award, according to the Nashville City Paper.
The award is voted upon by a panel of 50 media members from across the nation and is overseen by the Associated Press. Ryan received 44 votes, while Johnson, the runner-up, received just three votes.
"Of course, it would have been different," Johnson said. "I had the most votes of any rookie [for the Pro Bowl], more than Matt Ryan. I'm the only one that made it to the Pro Bowl out of all the rookies."
Pro Bowl balloting is done in thirds, with fan vote, player vote and coaches votes each counting one-third in the process.
"He's a good player, and he played quarterback and did a good job this year," Johnson said of Ryan, who guided the Falcons to an 11-5 record and a playoff berth. "But the whole thing is bogus, because people are voting for it that are not on the same field as the people who are playing.
"I'm disappointed. I did all I could to win it. I feel I did the best. I feel I did all I could do to win it; it just didn't come my way."
Ryan threw for 16 touchdowns and 11 interceptions, posting 3,440 yards and an 87.7 passer rating.
Johnson rushed for 1,228 yards and nine touchdowns for the Titans.

I had respect for Chris Johnson until now. Both Titans running backs are cry babies. Lendale White more so than Johnson but still.

CJ had one of the best defenses in the league and Lendale White to share carries with.

Matt Ryan took a horrible team that was just getting over a huge distraction from Mike Vick and a coach who ditches them mid-season to a playoff contender. Get over it Crybaby Johnson.

Chris Johnson did what he did on a team that was well on the verge of going to the playoffs like they did the year prior.

Matt Ryan did what he did on a team that had no business being over .500, nevermind in double-digit wins.

Oh, and let's not forget that Steve Slaton and Matt Forte had a similar/arguably better season than him. I don't hear them bitching.


EDIT: In fact, Steve Slaton should have gotten more first-place votes than CJ.

Titans were a good team but there were missing a something. Clearly they're a running team and the QB just manages the game. If White was their only HB and whoever else they had, they wouldn't be nearly as good. CJ helped push them over the Top.

Now as far as Ryan and the Probowl. I think the Only 3 QB's out the NFC that deserved to go was Brees, Warner, Ryan. Alot of the games however, Turner won for the falcons. Ryan did his thing this year and I think he should've been in the Race for RoY, but for CJ to only get 3, 4 votes. That stupid.

I agree that Slaton should've been up there.

I also agree that dumb media people should never have a say so on who wins what award. I also think its stupid that the Media picks who goes to the HoF. Them dumbasses never played a snap at practice. never ran a lap. Their opinion should only matter during Pre-Game and After Game Review.

Yeah they are. CJ's faster and I believe he's stronger as well, but then again I didn't watch many Texans games this year, so I don't have a great read on Slaton.
