It's just that the term "hall-of-fame player" makes one think first ballot, not a Thurman Thomas type.. Which I'm sure was the effect you were going for.

Didn't Mike get in first ballot? Either way, the effect I was going for, is that he's playing with WR that will be in the HOF, along with a pro bowl TE, on a running team. We saw what happens when he's the #1 guy.

But ultimately what you're saying is that he is playing behind a guy not in your top 10, but is still a top 10 receiver.

Bullshit! He made it in because he did something that not a lot of WR's do now a days. He got physical no matter what. Had he never been injured he would have had an even better resume to get into the HOF. Doing things that aren't necessarily in your job description makes you a better player than the one who just runs out there and catches.

I'm not gonna go into an argument of why I think Irvin is a HOFer. He deserves to be in there end of story.

Irvin= Most dominant WR not named Rice for a long period of time in the 90s.

Sharpe and Carter have there backers and rightfully so. Pun intended Irvin was a playmaker. 3 superbowls and the guy was an all time great big game performer.
Too many people have this delusional idea that all he did was muscle some guy and catch a short pass and fall down. The guy was unstoppable in intermediate routes better than any WR since then. Was fantastic at the deep ball and running after the catch. His YPC is higher than deep ball Randy Moss and almost 3 yards a catch higher than Marvin Harrison.
Going against Darrel Green , Aenas Williams , Eric Allen 6 times a season and routinely facing the eras toughest defenses multi times a year makes him a HOF player.
If he could chew up defenses facing tougher rules , MUCH tougher CBs , and top 10 defenses 6 times a year knocking his credentials belittles any WR today who have cupcake secondaries in front of them.

Hines Ward is a great player , very good WR. But he isnt top 10 anymore , nor has he been in the discussion or level of dominance as the leagues best the way Irvin was.
They do however have similar physical styles ,unselfish play , and championship resumes.

At the end of they day much as I love the guy I likely wouldnt put him(Ward) in the top 3 best WRs of the decade. Moss/TO/Harrison/Holt would be in before him.
Youd be delusional to not put Irvin in the top 3 wrs of the 90s.


Lastly anyone putting Santonio Holmes over Moss as to be under the influence.
Putting Ward top 10 is being sentimental.

Holmes is not a top 10 WR. He had an awesome Super Bowl, but compare his stats to those of Roddy White (who you had behind Holmes) and Greg Jennings (who you did not list).

Holmes - 55 catches - 821 yards - 54.7 yards/game - 14.9 yards/catch - 5 TDs
White - 88 catches - 1382 yards - 86.4 yards/game - 15.7 yards/catch - 7 TDs
Jennings - 80 catches - 1292 yards - 80.8 yards/game - 16.2 yards/catch - 9 TDs

How can you say Holmes is better than those 2?

Again, stats do not tell the whole story. The only reason his numbers were huge in the superbowl is because Hines wasn't a factor. If he's the number 1 guy, he will put up big numbers. He makes huge, clutch plays all year long. I would take him over all but a handful of receivers in the league, including Owens, and White.

I will say overall Im kinda surprised at the lack of TO in top 10 lists.
With 30 less catches he had 1 more play of 40+ yards , only 5 less plays of 20+ yards and only 2 less TDs that Fitz , and just about the same YPC. 28th in receptions but still 3rd in TDs is not really common for a WR.

His stats are almost identical to Moss last year.

I do think the distance between the top WRs is minimal. Im not sure I could easily say guys like Jennings , Marshall , White are all better than TO.

The schedules had some differences, with Smith playing some better defenses. Regardless of that though, Steve has done it over several seasons when the defenses played weren't so terrible. White has only had two good seasons, and this year was against pure trash. White is not that good. This coming from someone who likes the Falcons, and has a friend on the team.

Good WR.

Didnt do as well outside the run and shoot. Same level of performance as Andre Reed but not as consistent as Reed.

He and Deion looked really cool in Falcon uniforms then slap fighting there way to the sidelines.
