It's usually the MLB, and we should remember that this same player also may audible on D. Both you and Dave FAIL.

First off, are you really placing the MLB as one of the most important because he relays the calls on the field?

I know for my team the corner on the coaches side relays the coverages to the safety who relays it to the other corner.

I could go on, but its YOU who fails for not thinking that a safety, corner, dlineman, or OLB could call an audible or relay the calls.

I know this probably doesn't mean much but if you wanna go by Franchise tag amounts (Top 5 paid at that position) in 2009 the list would be:

4. DE

Dude, what goes on in your Pop Warner team is not representative of the NFL. Most of the time the liaison between the players and the staff is the MLB [he has the radio helmet]. As i've pointed out before, the same player is often allowed to audible.

Its not automatically the MLB that has the radio helmet, any player on the defense can have it...

Anyhoo, for me

1. QB
2. LT (or RT depending on which hand your qb throws with)
3. MLB
4. FS
5. DT

I personally put the MLB & the FS in the top 5 because these two guys will most help my defense control the middle of the field. Good ones at either position are like queens on a chessboard, they can do a lot of different things. And being a big fan of the 4-3, I need those DTs to keep my MLB clean and clog up the middle.

I would actually have CB fairly low because they're easier to hide if you're front 7 is good. Having a great corner is a bonus but if opposing teams don't have much time to throw the ball I'm not going to get killed without one. And if you can't get a ton of pressure on the qb then there are all sorts of zones you can use to mask their weaknesses.

Let's not get it twisted, though. For my money the o-line is by far the most important unit.

Okay, that would be high school ball but nice try.

I can understand choosing the Mike because of his importance in stopping the run, but to choose them because they relay the calls is just stupid, IMO, which is my point.

the battle is won in the trenches, although if you give me a big 6'7", 350 lbs, DT that can move, i would take 4th graders on the o line.

Guard is hardly the most important position.

I can't figure out why so many people are picking C and HB.

Centres/centers are the least important offensive line position, unless you have a rookie QB who knows nothing.

As for HB, the NFL is a passing league now.

HB aren't important if you have a good/great offensive line. The Giants are the best example of that, they can take any running back in the league and he would put good numbers due to how great they are up front. The same could be said for the Vikings.
