"Big Mouth" Chael Sonnen chickens out and isn't coming to Brazil for UFC Rio.
Whether or not the lynching threat changed Sonnen's mind we won't know for sure, but the fact is, the american is no longer coming to Brazil for UFC Rio. According to the coaches of the japanese fighter Yushin Okami, who arrived into town this week, Sonnen will not be in the country for the event.
Disliked by most brazilian fighters like Anderson Silva, Lyoto Machida, Wanderlei Silva and the Nogueira brothers; Sonnen has declared in a number of interviews that he would be coming to Brazil for UFC Rio, or UFC 134. Japanese Yushin Okami, his teammate, will be facing Anderson Silva in the main event of the evening, and Sonnen was expected to be his cornerman. The american even published in his microblog during the week that he'd be arriving in Rio on Friday.
However, Team Quest trainers, Sonnen's and Okami's team, denied that the American had or would come to Brazil. According to a Twitter post from the official UFC Rio, Sonnen was just "trolling", meaning, teasing the brazilians, and won't be in Rio for the fight. Sonnen has a scheduled fight for Oct 8 at UFC 136, in Houston, against countryman Brian Stann, and would be focused in training for the occasion.
Yushin Okami, however, is already in Brazil to face Anderson Silva at the main event of UFC Rio the next 27th, at the Arena da Barra. Combate Channel will air all fights live starting at 7pm, Brasilia time.
