IMO Big mistake not putting at least one other fight on TV.

Guida/Henderson would be the obvious choice.

I recall EXCs CBS showing being awful because the fights didnt commence until about 20 mins into the show.All this hype for what could be a one hour program dedicated to a 4 minute fight.
 
More then likely the fight is going to go short and they'll show another fight I bet.. if not they get a nice 4-5 rounder. I dont agree with the move either but hopefully for the sake of getting casuals in thats what happens.

Yeah but those filler fights at the end noone cares about.

You need to lead in right away with a fight. Why repeat another orgs mistakes ?
This isnt 1983s wide world of sports.

Guida is such an ideal guy IMO because hes energetic and has Palumalu like hair football fans can appreciate.
 
The Cain/JDS fight is the lone fight to air on FOX. Regardless how long the fight lasts.



The UFC’s introduction to the FOX audience is upon us.

Featuring a heavyweight title fight between Junior Dos Santos and champion, Cain Velasquez, the evening’s headliner is the only fight to air on the UFC’s new broadcasting partner.

With 10 other fights scheduled on the night, the UFC and FOX executives have opted to stream these fights live on both FOX.com and facebook.com.

UFC president Dana White confirmed the news during today’s pre-fight media call.

While on the call he stated that it does not matter if the fight last 25-minutes or 10-seconds, the broadcast will only include the main event of the evening and re-airs of the nights prior bouts will not be used to fill the hour long time slot.

UFC on Fox 1 is set to take place from the Honda Center in Anaheim, California on November 12. Headlined by a heavyweight title fight between champion, Cain Velasquez and contender, Junior Dos Santos the event marks the first UFC event on the network and the start of a 7-year broadcast deal between the two sports powerhouses.

If the main event turns into a positional ground battle lasting 25 minutes, the UFC’s introduction to a national audience could flop. Apparently that is a gamble the executives are prepared to make.

Someone needs to please explain to me in laymans terms what happens to people when they wear suits that makes them fuckin retarded. I cant fathom how this decision makes any sense on any level.
 
Funny all the crap the mma fans, media, etc gave SF for showtime 'running the show', fox is the same thing, lol @ 1 fight, CBS/showtime did 4 fights minimum besides when they did 3 title fights in 1 might
 
It's gonna be awkward as hell if this fight ends within 2-3 minutes.

The audience will have no time to build and they'd likely do a poor rating compared to expectations from both the company and the network. If it does go that short, millions of people will end up leaving the broadcast halfway through, if that, and move on. Joe Blow who barely watches MMA but is tuning in or flipping to it, is not sticking around to see Cain or JDS cut a promo next to Joe Rogan and see what Goldy has to say.

In a perfect world, the fight goes into the championship rounds and builds an audience that can set the record in north american MMA. Anything less is a disappointment when you're talking about the UFC on network TV and using a heavyweight title fight on free tv.

If it matters, Fertitta says it was Fox's call to promote the 1 fight, using any potential extra time to do whatever for new viewers instead of showing a second fight.

No clue why they would make that choice since people would stick to watch fighting, not guys in suits talking.

People watch hours of guys in suits talking every day, and even more on Sundays about football. Hell ESPN made their pregame shows 3 hours this year rather than 2. And they have an NFL show on every week.

So I would say, yeah people do stick around to listen to guys in suits talk if they are interested in the product that they are talking about.

If the fight ends in the first round, is anyone gonna care enough to spend up to 30 minutes watching Rogan, Goldy and whoever Fox puts out there talk?
